I'm kind of surprised nobody has mentioned this. Especially in this new age of highly fluid mechanised warfare the TDL is as critical as the T90/Merk 4 or J 17 b3 that dominated threads here. A TDL isn't an intranet which is restricted to similar platforms. This system takes the entire air/sea land battlespace picture from drones,EOSs,ships, infantry and/or land platforms in real time.
Of course it may be jammed or hacked. Every technological development has its weakness, though the TDL is an idea whose time has come,
The overall commander, for example can pinpoint suspected SAM sites to his gunships to hose down and rocket and sanitise a route for incoming FSBs;he can show his arty guys where an enemy company is in the open and immediately call in a fire mission or maybe he can ID that the intended chopper LZs have been secretly surrounded by HMGs......the tactical possibilities are endless.
Basically he and his subordinates will see the same picture at the same time.
Much less time will be wasted eg in requesting and authorising arty fire missions or approving tac air.
NATO has link 22,the S Africans link ZA,what about Indians or Pakistanis? How far are you along this path.
