Russian fifth-generation fighter "Sukhoi T-50" system equipped with unlimited supply of oxygen to the mask pilot. He needed to fly at an altitude of 4 km - without oxygen pilot begins to "fall asleep" and passes out. In all existing drill Russian aircraft oxygen is supplied from cylinders, which sooner or later come to an end. In the T-50, it works out of thin air a special system developed by scientific and production enterprise "Star".

- Oxygen is produced from air, the system selects it from the engine compressor and delivers the breathing mask pilot. The flight time is no longer dependent on the supply of oxygen, and the pilot can fly with several refueling, in contrast to existing aircraft, where the pilot all the time you need to look, not over whether he had oxygen before fuel - told "Izvestia" chief specialist NPP "Star" Michael Angelica.

According to him, except for an unlimited amount of oxygen system saves the payload war machine - the whole plant for production of oxygen weighs about 30 kg, while the oxygen cylinders on a two hour flight - 90 kg.

- This is mainly important for fighter aircraft, where there is always shortage of space and weight and where to store oxygen in large quantities, as in the big bombers, impossible - said Angelica.

He said the system was developed last five years and is now installed on the four test aircraft T-50, which are being tested in the suburbs.

- The first pre-T-50, which are made at Komsomolsk-on-Amur and flew under its own power, and they had, of course, refuel, restock oxygen but not required - said Angelica.

Without oxygen, can not do any modern aircraft - at altitudes of more than 4 km to breathe already nothing. And if a passenger or cargo aircraft presence of bulky cylinders on board almost imperceptibly, for the fighter, which is calculated every inch and programs, facilitate weight of 60 kg is very significant.

On the basis of BKDU for fighter T-50 set up a similar system for training and combat aircraft of the Russian Yak-130, this year will receive oxygen system, carrier-based fighters MiG-29K. Assessing the benefits of such systems, they have already ordered for its Su-30, the Army of Algeria and Malaysia.

- On the first experimental Yak-130 was a common air plant with balloons - says test pilot Roman Taskaev. - In 1999, we surpassed a Yak-130 to Italy for factory Aermacchi. Oxygen is taken, that was enough for the entire flight, but because of the partial decompression cylinders its consumption has increased, and we had to land at the airport in Bratislava for refueling. With the new principle, such problems can not be.

The Russian army oxygen while traditionally "mined" on the ground. This process requires trained personnel and special complicated equipment. In case of violation of technologies is likely explosion.

- Now in the battalions of airfield logistics includes extracting oxygen car station - told "Izvestia", the former Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov. - For their services are needed soldiers and sergeants, the last six-month training in this specialty, and officers are studying at this five years. Because of the high fire danger oxygen selection for these specialties is very strict.

According to Kornukov, a new oxygen system will help to reduce staff aerodrome employees and increase the effectiveness of fighter aircraft at long distances. There will be problems and field aerodromes where no extracting oxygen equipment.

The system onboard oxygen stations under the symbol OBOGS exists in the U.S. Army - its fifth-generation aircraft are equipped with the F-22 carrier-based fighters and F-18.

Good IAF su-30 MKIs and mig-29s and mirages all have homemade OBOGS.Because we need fighters for high altitude ops in china border.Nice to PAK FA will already come with these.Excellent news.

Nice to meet u too mate, for the first few years i was mostly just reading posts as observer, maybe a few posts in military history. Now i'm a little more active.

I remember reading about MKI having sorties as long as 10 hours, at cruise height > 10 km. How did they managed that, with two pilots? Considering the numbers given in the article, 90 kg for two hours means 450 kg for 10.
