Syed Akbaruddin, former MEA spokesperson will soon be India’s permanent representative in the United Nations. He currently holds the position pf Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. He will replace Asoke Mukherji. Akbaruddin, known for making MEA media friendly is highly regarded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In other expected rejigs in the MEA, Gautam Bambawale, India’s ambassador to Bhutan, may take over from TCA Raghavan as High Commissioner to Pakistan when the latter retires in December.

Navtej Sarna, presently secretary (west) in the MEA will be India’s next High Commissioner to London while Vijay Gokhale, India’s ambassador to Germany will move to Beijing, after the current incumbent, Ashok Kantha retires in a few months.

Anil Wadhwa, secretary (east), is expected go to Italy, while Pankaj Saran, currently India’s high commissioner to Bangladesh, may be sent to Russia.
