Suu Kyi plans visits to China, US and Bangladesh

State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi’s staff are making plans for her to visit China and the USA.

“Other countries have invited her to visit. We will announce dates when they are confirmed,” said Aye Aye Soe, deputy director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She is planning to visit China first, before going to the USA, Bangladesh and Malaysia later this year.

Suu Kyi and President Htin Kyaw visited Laos on May 6 and she was in Thailand late last month.

She is currently in Laos to attend the 49th Asean Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and its related events until July 26.

I used to have a lot of respect for her...brainwashing from living in the west, where she is considered a living saint

But, with the attacks by Buddhist monks on the Muslim minority in Burma/Myanmar, and her refusal to condemn the actions due to politics....I realised she wasn't who she was made out to be.

That doesn't make her evil or a bad person...just human and in the end, a politician (like everyone else), playing politics and doing what is necessary to ensure she gains power.

So, I hope we are very good hosts when she visits and she enjoys the stay, but I won't be fawning over her like the media will be.

I know a couple of Burmese and they were really down to earth and friendly, so I hope, the relationship between our two nations grows!

Thai, Burmese,khemer etc looks down to earth from outside. They are actually one of the most inhuman bunch in this region since ancient time. Just search their history and you will know.

Never really bothered to look up too much history with respect to south east asia...not a particularly popular thing in middle school social studies in the US

Might need to educate myself.

Obviously I know about the Khmer Rouge...Pol Pot etc...but, next to nothing about the Burmese or Thai historically.

As for my personal experience, had a Burmese on my floor when I lived in the dorms and he was cool...2nd person was my landlord after I moved out of the dorms and rented my own place. She never gave me any trouble and whenever I had any trouble - plumbing etc etc, she took care of it without any hassles.

Best of all she gave me back my entire security deposit when I moved out despite me completely wrecking one of the closet doors

Great.She is one of the few leader we genuinely respect.Hope her visit will deepen the friendship and co-operation between Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Yes I know, When I was writing that post I was thinking about that too and that how couple of Bengali writers found shelter in Arakan court and the Arakan king took muslim titles as well.

However, Imagine a case in Bangladesh where Torture of Buddhists are taking place and entire country silently agrees with the persecution. Is it possible in Bangladesh?

I just dont want to mention individual incidence here. Just look at their recent social and ethnic fabrics and infighting.

Just a little glimse. In all the war they more or less savaged the prisoner or made slaves.

Just look at the Chakma community in Bangladesh, They had to move out of Burma entirely
