NEW DELHI: Six security personnel were injured after suspected militants opened fire at a CRPF convoy in Srinagar's Pantha Chowk area on Monday.
Unidentified gunmen fired at a civilian passenger vehicle carrying CRPF jawans of 97 Battalion at Sempora in Pantha Chowk area. The civilian driver was also injured in the crossfire.
The wounded jawans were rushed to a hospital and two of them are reportedly in critical condition.
"Our companies were going from Jammu to Srinagar, when we were fired upon by terrorists. Six personnel were injured and have been taken to the hospital," CRPF PRO B Chaudhury told ANI.
The jawans were on their way to Srinagar for election duty for Lok Sabha bypolls scheduled to be held on April 9.
The incident took place just 1.5 kms away from the Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Pampore, which was attacked twice by LeT terrorists, first in February and again in October last year.
