Indian remdey to make small things bigger....
Teacher: How to make 2 inch line bigger without touching it.
Student: Sorry maam we can't.
Teacher: Yes you can by drawing another line shorter then two inch along with this.
Lol.True, but cataract surgery performed by Sushruta was very dangerous.
Nevertheless to have achieve that level of sophistication in such ancient time itself is an achievement we all should be proud of.
Sushruta: The father of surgery

He said scientists, physicians, innovators of that time had ‘significantly advanced human knowledge’.
PTI
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said that surgeons in ancient India were capable of performing complex procedures like plastic and cataract surgeries, reported PTI. Naidu was addressing an event after conferring awards at the Adi Shankara Institute of Engineering & Technology in Kerala’s Kalady town, reported Manorama Online.
“We knew how to make steel alloys and smelt zinc,” he said, according to PTI. “Our ancient surgeons could conduct many complicated surgeries, including plastic surgery and cataract surgery.” He said scientists, mathematicians, physicians, astronomers and innovators in ancient India had significantly advanced human knowledge.
The vice president said along with gross national income, the focus must be on how science and technology can foster greater happiness and better quality of life. Naidu said youngsters in the country should draw inspiration from the best of India’s traditions and revitalise the nation.
“Advancement of human knowledge has occurred in our country because of the spirit of enquiry, the ability to question, the ability to research and the ability to arrive at the truth,” he said.

Lol.
Basically he was a quack.
Exactly.I am a doctor,,,yes sushruta did some amazing things for his time,,,its already acknowledged.
But it is by no means tht those procedures will even be considered slightly safe today.
For example in old times venosection was done in hypertensive patients(cutting a vein so as to let some amount of blood out thus decreasing blood pressure)
It was good for its time but now it sounds like madness
Lol. Read my above post.Lol.
There were no medical degrees issued way back then.
Shushruta was first surgeon known to have used plastic surgery techniques, cataract surgery even for treatment for fistulas..
He even used different surgical equipment (probablypself designed) for procedures, some of which are used in reinvented forms today
These were great achivements considering the technology of those times.
These things are better understood if you are a doctor
Ganesha - God of Transplant Surgery
He is the elephant-headed God, the embodiment of wisdom, knowledge and bliss; the remover of obstacles, beloved son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi, elder brother of Lord Karthikeya- he is none other than Lord Ganesha.
Ganesha - World's 'first' Xeno-transplant
If the story of Lord Ganesha is true, as depicted in the Hindu mythology, He is, perhaps, the first example of xeno-transplantation in the world.
Today, with shortage of organs the world over, the attractive option of using animal organs is being explored all the time. If research could overcome rejection (antigen- antibody reaction), then, using animal body parts for humans could become a reality. Some examples of animal tissue that is used in the humans include heart valves that are derived from pigs.
Ganesha has an elephant's head on the human body. The transplant is believed to have been performed by Lord Shiva. The scientific significance of Ganesha's form may be interpreted as follows-
» Lord Ganesha looks abnormally obese, especially so in the regions of his abdomen and chest. After transplant surgery almost all patients receive steroids leading to a similar obesity. One wonders if Ganesha was on a long-term high dose of steroids after the transplant? No other Indian God is shown with this type of physique.
» Lord Ganesha's accompanying mate is shown as a mouse - which sits in the lower corner of the picture. Most of the transplant research is done on mice before it is extrapolated on humans. There are reasons to ponder if the mouse is depicted for a purpose; giving the small animal its dues.
» After the transplant surgery, Lord Shiva is believed to have given Ganesha an elixir to drink. One cannot help speculating if this was some potion containing an anti-rejection medication. It is common practice to use similar booster anti-rejection drugs during transplant surgeries performed today.
Solid organ transplants are now common venture and almost any organ can be transplanted. Recently there have been instances of face transplants; however head transplant is the most complex of all transplants and no one has attempted this feat. Xeno-transplants of the head are unlikely to be used and can be only be confined to mythological stories such as that of Lord Ganesha.

Speechless.......as per them they are able to replace child's head with elephant's head but even after 10000 years they are not able to provide toilets to their own people....Is building toilet is more difficult than head transplant?
Yeh log nahien sudryen gey....
Everything starts as an experimentI am a doctor,,,yes sushruta did some amazing things for his time,,,its already acknowledged.

No, he wasn't. The fact is he understood the cause of the blindness in cataract was an opaque lens and understanding that removal of it improves sight , and we still perform the same basic procedure though in sterile environment, but the underlying idea remains the same.Lol.
Basically he was a quack.
Exactly.
Point is that Hindus made no meaningful contribution to medical science. Accept it and move on.
Lol. Read my above post.
The only doctor here @halupridol accepts that he was a quack. So lets go with that, shall we?No, he wasn't. The fact is he understood the cause of the blindness in cataract was an opaque lens and understanding that removal of it improves sight , and we still perform the same basic procedure though in sterile environment, but the underlying idea remains the same.
Is it really necessary to attach religion with everything ?
