Surface To Air Missiles | Terror in the Sky.

very true,
Paksiatn must shift there focus and invest on counter measure systems.
either be it the SAM system to counter the best of the aircrafts in the world or be it Radars to detect the best!!

i have always been a fan of Anti-Stealth radar system rather then stealth aircrafts.
you see, such a radar occuping the JFT will turn it into an F-22 Raptor killer!!

regards!

I totally agree with u bro...cuz this will be the best strategy in any war scenario...
:coffee:

and just to keep he discussion going what would you suggest must be done to improve on this???

regards!

I always prefer SAMs over interceptors..!!

There are 2 types available in the world, Patriot & S-300 models. Since Russia wont sell to Pak, try to buy Patriots.

Patriots are very expensive, plus would never be sold to us.

So best option is to join in with the Chinese, use some of our own knowledge and make something as per our own requirements and specifications.

Having good SAMs in inventory is like having huge shield in one hand and sword in another hand, just like Sparta warriors. both are very effective and work in conjunction.

Rgds,

true,
that what the FT-2000 was all about.
we have been listening about it since 2003 and nothing practical have been acheived so far.
i bet it is not budget contrains in this regard, there is something else, we might well have got them.
the thing that could have got wrong is the planners are not pputting this high prioprity item on top of list, this, of course is very unlikely to happen!

Taimur bhai, Salamoona

what is your assesment of Russian S-300PMU series and the (un)likelihood of inducting such a system?

i hate speculating and making presumptions; but what was the purpose of Defence minister Mukhtars recent visit to Moscow?

HQ-9 is supposed to be bsed on S-300.
we were more intrested in FT-2000 that was infact modified HQ-9 with better guaidance.
it is also known as AWACS killer!

there appeared a new like;

In October 2003, it was announced that China had sold its FT-2000 anti-radiation system, which uses HQ-9 missiles, to Pakistan as part of the latter’s military buildup against India. Many U.S. defense analysts predict that, over the next few years, the HQ-9 and its variants will be aggressively exported throughout Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
but like all other stuff related to SAM procurement (both FT-2000 and SPADA) it was never confirmed by officials.
now what i agree is that it is a defensive war weapon and there are a hundred good reasons to keep it under convers.
for offensive weaponary, in todays world, the idea is not to keep it secret as we want to show off the abilities of our main strikers so that enemy have to think twice before starting a war.
a modren age war is destruction for both the parties!

regards!

Anybody knows the cost of the New SAM Systems?

HQ-9 - ?
PAC-3 ?
S-300 ?

Must be in billions, India has bought six S-300 batteries in August 1995 for $1 billion, probably the S-300PMU-2 version, believed to consist of 48 missiles per system. These will most likely be used in the short-range ballistic-missile defence (BMD) role.

So todays exchange rate, one battery must cost 3-4 billion.

Is there any new systems apart from the above?

they are expensive but so are all other modren weaponary..

it would be ideal if we dont have to spend on these equipment but it has become a necessary evil!

Israel Unveils Loitering Anti-Missile Drone
Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is developing a loitering killer drone that has the capability to hunt illusive ground targets, such as anti-aircraft systems and mobile or concealed ballistic missile launchers. This expendable unmanned aerial vehicles, known as Harop, can be launched over a suspected area without specifically acquiring a specific target. Designed to reach targets at distances over 1,000km away, the UAV loiter over a suspected area for hours, spot target as they are exposed before activation and attack them immediately.

IAI is already negotiating potential export sales of the weapon with India and Turkey. The company exposed the system for the first time in India, before the Aero-India 2009 airshow.
Harop resembles an earlier IAI's 'suicide drone' known as Harpy. The main differences are the outer wing extensions, the longer nose and canard foreplane. Like Harpy, Harrop is launched from a vehicle-mounted container. Harop augments the Harpy's RF seeker with an electro-optical sensor, allowing it to acquire and pursue non emitting targets and moving targets, as well as 'quit' targets such as shut-down radars. As a loitering weapon, Harop can also be used against suspected ballistic missile sites, where target missile silos and shelters as they are opened before firing

India is considering acquiring Harpy 2 (also known as 'Harop') killer drones developed by Israel Aerospace Industries, as part of a procurement program valued over $US1 billion. Harop is an evolution of the Harpy killer drone, optimized to operate against enemy radars and surface/air missiles. Harpy was developed in the 1990s and has been successfully exported to countries around the world.

Turkey is also interested in this Lethal Unmanned Aerial System capability and by the end of 2008 the Ministry of Defense was considering enhancing the Harpy radar killer drone capability with the loitering killer drone version of the system.

The Harop has evolved at IAI through a series of international cooperations that have never fully matured. In 1999 IAI discussed a joint prograp Raytheon known as the "Cutlass", pursuing a 'Combat Uninhabited Target Locate and Strike System'. Initially displayed in the Paris Air Show in 1999, the system combined the airframe of the Harpy UAV, made by Israel Aircraft Industries, with advanced sensors made by Raytheon Systems, which also manufactures the HARM (High Speed Anti-Radiation) missile. Cutlass was adapted for ship-based operations to support US Navy operations over land.

It is designed for six hours missions, flying at speed of 100 knots and maximum range of 1,000 km. Unlike the autonomous Harpy, Cutlass also has a direct line-of-sight datalink capability at range up to 150 km. This range can be extended via relays built into each weapon.

In October 2005 Harop dubbed 'White Hawk', was presented to the UK Ministry of Defense, by a team lead by MBDA that also included IAI/MBT Division. Although MBDA was eventually selected as one of the finalists for the UK Loitering Munition Capability Demonstration (LMCD)Fire Shadow), White Hawk was not selected for the program, as the MOD insisted on an 'all British' team. program (which later evolved into the

Israel Exports Loitering Anti-Missile Drone

I am quite skeptical an anti aircraft missile systems are going to be of much use. Perhaps for a ship, or a very limited area if you have a multilayer defense.. But I doubt if they are going to be cost effective for a wide area.
They are developing stealthy drones right now that are going to be just about impossible to detect. I have seen anti aircraft missile Installations in the USSR, over time they deteriorate. Remember you dont have to defeat the entire system, just those between you and the target..

thanks for the informative post but do you think it is by any means related to Pakistan military SAM procurement?

As of now US only operates the stealth air craft. More to follow soon.

99% of the world's fighter jets are vulnerable to those SAMs. Also there will be more radars in the future which will deduct those stealths..
