Sun Yang beats Aus rival to become World Champion in 400m freestyle

Actually, I don't know where you have been hiding for the last 20 years. World Class achievement have been done and have since been equally strong in many of the sporting field.

Japan/Korea was dominating in baseball ROK won World Cup twice and 5 Runner up in the last 20 years, Japan have 2 Runner Up and Taipei have 1, also South Korea ran 4th in 2002 FIFA World Cup and is placed 17th on FIFA world Ranking beating a lot of European Power House. Not to Mention South Korea dominated in Judo and Taekwondo (Japan earn 3 gold in Judo in 2016 Olympic, South Korea won 2 in Taekwondo) Not to mention Shooting and Archery, both of which South Korea dominating the world (Especially Archery, which clean up all 4 gold in 2016 Summer Olympic. South Korean also did pretty good in Golf.

North Korea was the current U-20 and U-16 Women Soccer's World Cup holder.

Indonesian Rio Haryanto was the first Indonesian F1 Driver, coming to term with a few of his Asian F-1 driver mainly from Japan. Indonesia also dominated Badminton along with China and Malaysia

Japan on the other hand was dominating in Volleyball in the 1980s. As well as several combat sport, soccer and

There are quite a few choices in Asia when it come to sport, not to mention the up and coming nation like Singapore and Vietnam which started winning gold in Olympic Games, hell, even Hong Kong have one Gold and 2 bronze in Olympic.

Being Proud of being Asian and being Proud of being Chinese is two different thing, people should have been proud of their own heritage and so it's quite funny and to some extend, sad, for you to be proud of China as you have no relationship to China what so ever (Maybe you are of Chinese Descent? I don't know). If you are a Chinese, then I would understand you are rooting for China, but if you are not, and you are rooting for China just because they are Asian, then there are something wrong with you. Why not root for Japan, Why not for South Korea? Why not Malaysia? But you don't just root for any one particular country because they are Asian. My wife is Swedish, she would not root for Denmark just because Denmark done better on international Sport and both Swede and Dane are Scandinavian.

But then this is beside the point. World Aquatic Championship is not looked upon as anything serious to Swimmer, WAC does not give out Olympic Ticket to nations, which mean they are not really counted in the standing of a Swimmer (Winning WAC does not automatically qualify for the next summer Olympic anymore) so a lot of athletes either not bother to go or not performing their best anyway to begin with. Case in Point, as I said China have been virtually dominated along with the US in WAC Chinese are either First or Second on the medal tally, but then that does not reflect well on the last 3 Olympics, where the combine gold medal total between 2008 Beijing Olympic, 2012 London Olympic and 2016 Rio Olympic have less Gold medal than any single one of these WAC meet (China have 8 Gold medal in 3 Olympic and at least 11 gold each WAC since 2007.)

Happy for something that's not going to make a different is, I don't know how to describe it, yes, Sun Yang beat Mack Horton in WAC 2017, he also beat him in WAC 2015 and WAC 2013, yet Mack Horton is the one that won the Olympic, he is the one the world is going to remember. The stuff that I want to see is more Asian Country winning gold in competitive international Arena, not some secondary challenge, majority of reason why we Asian are lacking in sporting field is because we satisfied and compromised on second best situation, we are overly celebrate when we won something in meet like this, and then when the big thing came, those performance we saw in these meet is no where to be seen, mostly because we are still fond of and drunk in the "Achievement" we have in these meet. I am happy for any Asian to win gold, not just China, were you happy when Schooling beat Phelps in 100 meters butterfly? Wouldn't you want more Singaporean win gold in Olympic just like Joseph Schooling did?

You do know Performance Enhancing drug is not used like that? If you want to boost your performance, you use it 1 or 2 year prior and continuously to boost your performance, there does not exist drug that can turn a normal person into Hulk in just a day or a week.
We are talking about Swimming here and you quote me long story about Baseball, Taekwondo, Judo.
You left out Badminton and Table Tennis which we Asians are good at.
Yes I am delighted that Schooling got a gold after 60 years of trying, albeit Schooling is not exactly a true Asian.
He is Eurasian, so half Asian.

Your hate for China knows no bounds, where did I say I only wanted China to win.
I specifically said Asian. I would be just as happy that Japan, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia had won.
But unfortunately no, but you are delusional if you think Singaporeans are satisfied with 1 gold every 60 years.
So what you are saying is Asians should be very happy with an occasional gold.
There are so many instances where Asians came close to at least a medal in swimming and field and track, but they always fail when it mattered until we thought it could never be achieved, that is until China came in.

Maybe I shouldn't fault you as maybe you are not around 50 years ago.
You talk as if Performance Enhancing drug is invented in China and Lance Armstrong of France did not take drugs.
From the US, we have shamed famous drug users like 100m sprinters Ben Johnson, Justin Gatlin.
I believe you may have grievances with China or just the CPC.
Please drop your anti China bias whatever your grouse with China is.

First of all, you were never just talking about Swimming, or at least you weren't that clear.

And to be fair, there are numerous Asian who win gold for Asian country in this field as well before we see the Chinese start "dominated" the field. There are Japanese, Korean, Singaporean, who won swimming gold before (Japan in fact won two gold in Rio 2016) the problem is that even after China came in, the Asian Swimming gold have not expanded since the last 3 games (that covered 12 years to be precise.) In fact, other Asian country did better than China in Swimming at the Olympic barring the 2012 London Olympic.

Problem is that, you are not proud of being an Asian, you only say that but from your word, you said that like China is the savour of Asia, in fact that is not true. The thing is, I cannot see why, as you are not Chinese, meaning you would have to abandon the Asian value to go fly after one flag, that is not yours.

Am I anti-China? Maybe, but I do feel proud about my heritage, I don't go out and get all inferior to every other person and hoping to become someone stronger like an American, I earn my way thru Officer Candidate School, I earn my way thru my 2 Master Degree, I do not try to go after someone else's glory. Am I proud of being an American, Australian, British, Swedish too? You bet, but that would not mean I would have to hide who I really are.

I never said Singaporean should be satisfied for a single gold in every 60 years, but you should be glad that you are at least at world level if not better to get that gold and that is just the beginning. No point hiding behind the flag of China and say "If only the Chinese did this, which is a win for Asian" that's defeatism if you ask me. If you are really that ashame to be a Singaporean or Asian, maybe you should migrate to China and root for them if you can, but before that happen, have some sense of pride of being a Singaporean.

I have a Puerto Rice friend, who as you may or may not know, all Puerto Rican are American, but he stick with PR and when Monica Puig won a gold over Kerber in Tennis during 2016 Rio, he didn't "Should I be happy when a single Random gold appear once every 90 years?" He said to me, "This is the beginning of something great" He is proud of being a Puerto Rican, all the while he could have hide behind the US flag and cheer for the Williams sister as it is his flag too.

And no, I did not forget about Badminton, I have said that under the Indonesian comment.

Another so very looooong reply from you until you forgot that we are here discussing Sun Yang in swimming.
I am very sure you are sooo proud to be American but I am not sure if they are so proud to have you.
You can also have plastic surgery to make yourself look white.
Cannot blame you as I believe you never experienced living being colonized.
You never had to wait for your turn to swim in a swimming pool and when us Asians enter the pool, all the British will exit the pool as if we had disease. That limited opportunity, I think it was 2 hrs/week, to swim in a pool is a privilege just negotiated by our community center with the British. So we Asians should jump with joy.
You never saw Asians being beaten by these drunken trash whites but the local police can do nothing to them.
We learned to hate and fear them and acquired a natural instinct to help when we see them bullying us Asians.
Or you had and so admire them and want to worship these colonizers.

Singapore have many things to be proud of, not necessarily to be in sports, and indeed we have achieved much.
Am I satisfied with everything Singapore, No, that would be an abnormal person.
With the entry of China, Asians are now witnessing an Asian power able to challenge the colonizer West whether it is sports, economics or military.

Is it so difficult for you to understand that someone would like to cheer for fellow Asians and not just blindly cheer for USA, the whites or anything American?

This post reminds me Hong Kong at 60s to 70s where the main goal of British colonial officials was to gain bribed money as many as possible. Before the handover, we were always their bank machine that the UK government withdrew undisclosed amount of money every year from our treasury. Also overcharged price from British companies for almost every government project. There were also few suspicious murder cases in 70s involved with high level British officials where either the cases went cold or innocent Chinese got arrested instead.

Was going to think I can verse with you in a cool handed and civil manner, but I guess this is too much to ask.

All I said was, I don't understand the idea for you, a Singaporean, to cheer for China when the Singaporean have a good going in the same sport, but then I am not you, I do see my allegiance I pledge and the people I see, but then me and you were brought up in a different environment. If you do not have any national pride in Swimming and in Singapore, than that's hardly my business.

You have make this discussion an White vs Asian, which I did not do (because Singaporean is also Asian) but if this is the way you want to go, you can go do this alone.

The prospect is this, I do not cheer for anyone just because how I look or how I feel, I am the kind of person who cheer the underdog, yes, I did cheer for Wimbledon when they Won over Liverpool FC for FA Club 1988, and yes I am that old. I stand up to cheer with my Puerto Rican friend when the unknown Puig won the well known Kerber. I cheer for a good fight, I don't really care which country that person is from and what is his/her skin colour, of course, there are some exception, for example I am a die hard US Men's basketball and baseball team fans. Does it make me feel inferior of my own race?

In the end, YES, it's hard for me to understand for an Asian to cheer for other Asian when your own country itself have stake on the same platform, you ALWAYS WISH WELL FOR YOUR OWN COUNTRY FIRST, everything come second, so yes, I don't understand why you will cheer for China when you are not Chinese.

If this is the case, then maybe you should move to China, because then it would make sense. I never heard of anyone I know would blindly cheer some other country just because they are the same people. As I told you , my wife's Sweden, she would not cheer for Denmark because both Swede and Dane are white and both Scandinavian. But then I guess, different people have different feeling.

By the way, your post is WAYYYY longer than mine.

Bronze in a world event is something to be proud of.
China has got around to not needing to win a lot of gold.
Why China doesn’t care about gold medals anymore

Reflective China braces for diminished haul

As to why nobody try to update this anymore. I find that a lot of folks keep away whenever you butt in.
Not that your arguments are convincing.
This is something that a person who attaches no importance to his roots or kinship will understand.
Cheers and Congratulations to the USA.

Nobody said it wasn't so. In fact, the same reason why I updated this thread is Because China earn a Bronze last night. And the reason I did not post Chinese winning gold, well, it's because China did not win any since two days ago. That's probably why the Chinese member here did not update, but hey Bronze still good and it should be recognized, shamed that nobody is even bothered anymore.

You have once again over-read my post.

Congrats to all.
Haters are gonna hate anyway, they are born to serve their masters in Merika.

USA is too dominant in swimming and they're so many medals there. In order for China to dominate the medal table, they need to improve their swimmers. China needs 5 Sun Yangs!!!
