The premise of the thread is wrong. PAF is not looking for an alternate to counter Phalcon's range. It makes no sense for the PAF to look for a capability that offers greater detection range than what the other side has. Currently both have a capability that is sufficient for surveillance and early warning. PAF's primary consideration in acquiring other options besides Erieye are two pronged, one is to not have reliance on a Western supplier and secondly getting additional AEW capability (beyond the 4 platforms) at more favourable financial terms so all of the combat assets can be tied together.
The initial point in the first post attributed to PAF that it requires something to match the Phalcon is the usual ill-informed analysis, usually motivated by the need to put down Pakistani acquisitions and capabilities. Practically and technically speaking, there is no such need. It would be a waste of money and time for PAF to go buy something that offers greater range and tracking than Phalcon just to say so that we have it.
Erieye does what we need it to do for us and its sufficient. Additional Chinese systems will help split the workload and give more flexibility in terms of employment.
i am rather inclined to think that many people here dont have basic knowledge about phased array radars,ok
now coming to the point of phalcon,it is indeed one of the best awacs systems in the world, because of it's high density TRMMs,which chinese havent been able to "duplicate" so far...
it is yet to be seen chinese patents related to TRMM developments and the TRMM density which they have accomplished in recent years..
by fair estimates, and since i am in this field,i can assure you that india's TRMM have higher density TRMM than their chinese counterparts...it is just the sheer political will and our PSUs that we lack the sort of manufacturing capability which china has...
other than that, india and china are fairly on same level when it comes to AESA radars,
though i will put the indian R&D and "PATENTs" slightly above chinese in terms of innovative technologies that have been created and accomplished by LRDE in recent years
thanks !

please, do not compare us with you indian, our GDP only 5 times of indians ,and our industry output only 10 times of indians ,our R&D expenditure only 7 times of indian ,so we are far far inferior and we REALLY do not want to compare with indian, peace!
please share numbers with references.
