Sufi culture is answer to rising extremism: Bilawal

Sufism is the soul of Pakistan & i think it can be said culture.

Its not the fact sufism is talks about coexistence and peace.

Pakistan unrest is due to half majority people extreme Muslims & half majority following Indian culture.

First u were saying sufism is pakistan's soul when as per ur words above half of pakistanis foollows extremism and other half Indian culture then who the hell follows sufism??

Is there any one above that 50% + 50% = 100% population?

Please read the post of ajpirzada, what you are referring to are a bunch of drug addicts hardly following the teachings of Islam and getting passed around as Sufis while they are not. Sorry had to reply to help correct the train of thought:)
can you tell me what behaviour of sufis are different from non sufis?(ignoring the drug use)

Sufism (Tasawuf) basic knowledge is actually so simple.....If we learn psychoanalyst and understand the term of subconsciousness and consciousness so we will understand Sufism so easily. Sufi is some one that try to have subconsciousness faith...which is different with majority of Muslim where their faith are still in consciousness area. And Sufi are vary....there are many that dont follow syariah...and There are many as well that follows syariah....so pick the one that follow syariah....so it is the right Sufi....if we are not sure enough which one...at least pick Ibnu Qayim a Salafi great Master who has Sufism understanding...read his book "Madarijus Salikin." Today Salafi is quite different with what Ibnu Qayim preached about its opinion regarding Tasawuf (Sufism).

Sufisim is not a culture or practice.
A person is termed Sufi, who is full of knowledge and have found the true meaning of his life and his relationship with his creator.
Since Sufis believe that life is temporary, hence they lead simple lives, and in many cases completely ignore the materialism of this world.
They also try to pass there knowledge in soft and meaningful way, attracting less criticism for believing in one Almighty and most merciful concept of God.
They also criticize the evil practices and ignorance around them in similarly soft way. generaly refered as 'tasawwuf'
They live sect. free and die sect. free. Dr. Iqbal, Bulleh Shah was one such example.

Unfortunately, instead of learning from their message people started to worship their burial place, completely ignoring that dead people cannot hear you (citation) or help you, rather they are more helpless than a living person.

My favorite one in Punjabi:

what is difference .....one carrying black flag and another red ,just for knowledge i am asking

Sufi culture is answer to rising extremism: Bilawal

KARACHI: Patron-in-Chief, Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasised on spreading message of love, peace and human fraternity to the nook and corner of the world besides truly following it in our country.
“Let the world know about the saints and philosophers, we so fondly revere,” Bilawal stated this, in his message on 270th annual Urs of great saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai scheduled to start at Bhit Shah on Wednesday.
Bilawal said the best way to pay tribute to our sufi saints and their legacy is to make their teachings of love, peace, brotherhood and humanity as practicing traditions. Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai’s poetic wisdom and philosophy forms one of the best parts of our heritage. Indeed, he added, it is continuity of our beautiful Indus valley civilisation marked by 5,000 old civilisation of Mohenjodaro. PPP Patron-in-Chief said that Sindh’s sufi culture is the answer to rising evil of extremism which is raising its monstrous head in the country and many parts of the world. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that his idea of Sindh Festival scheduled for two weeks in February 2014 is meant to preserve, protect and promote our heritage and tell the world that whenever we pray for our own-self and land, we do send prayers for well-being of entire world as well.

well i think I'm going to move away from sufism since bilawal endorsed it, must be something wrong with it lol.

Bilawal should focus on things he knows best: spending daddy's money on

daddys money my ***, innocent pakistanis money you mean.

it is partially correct ,any philosophy is incomplete without tradition and culture ,so both are important , a philosophy which you believe and practice (the way you act) ,and how you are incorporating both that makes really difference
for example Hindu in Indonesia ,they have different tradition, ritual which make them culturally different for Indian Hindu, Hindu in yogyakarta (central java) also circumcised ,this act they didn't correlate with religion, they consider as celebration of manhood, because sultan believe every buddy has to represent same culture,so Hindu is following his instruction

similarly sultan of yogyakarta still practice some Hindu ritual ,it is land of volcano and tsunami,so it is very difficultly for them to stop worshiping fire and water , because they are living under highly active volcano (Merapi) ,

just one example (there may be many more example)

HINDU INFUSE ISLAM

A Pakistani Muslim devotee smokes outside the shrine of Muslim saint Hazrat Ali bin Usman Al-Hajveri, popularly known as Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh, during three day annual ''Urs'' or religious festival in Lahore on January 24, 2011. Data Ganj Bakhsh was a Persian Sufi and scholar during the 11th century. He was born in Ghazni, Afghanistan (990 AD) during the Ghaznavid Empire and settled and died in Lahore spreading Islam in South Asia. Thousands of Muslim devotees across Pakistan participated in the 967th annual festivities at the shrine to pay their tribute to the saint.

Hmm.. what's in the pipe??

Arabia be up there to throw money to rid Islam of this!

Destruction and annihilation of mystic practices at Sufi Tombs is the cornerstone strategy of Wahhabism:
The Unitarian concept of Abdul Wahab was that the only stone a Muslim can use as anintercession is the Black Stone of Kaaba [/central shrine or idol ~ pre-Islamic that must have been the Allah stone ~ to which every Muslim must pray everyday - a stone forms the center of Islamic worship!!], whereas all other shrines and mausoleums are considered to be ungodly. But here, in the subcontinent and Far East, the population had a natural tendency and adoration towards shrines and saints due to Hindu and Buddhist backgrounds. It was expressed through their great love for music, an art form that had divine connotations to sing devotional paeans in an opium-induced trance. So what was part of a culture became part of the religion. It may have not been something prescribed by the Prophet [he did it pre-Islamic Arabian practise are all over Islam], butsans tradition, the evolution would be different. Now changing these people by force to the “desert” version of Islam [Islam and laws are almost entirely about life in the desert ~ if you kill a man ~ you should take the family a camel, burying the body the next day because of the heat] is a very big challenge and Taliban realizes that the only way they can do it is through bloodshed, terror and senseless killing like we witnessed in Data Darbar. The three-day celebrations of 967th festival of Hazrat Ali Bin Usman popularly known as Data Gunj Bakhsh started with traditional zeal with 'chaddar' laying ceremony at the shrine after the after noon prayers. At least 42 people were killed on July 2, 2010 in two suicide attacks at the tomb of an Islamic saint Data Ganj Bakhsh in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.

Islamization Watch: Hindu infused Islam - Photos

besides that baba in the end dancing the rest don't even look pakistani, they look indian.

@naveen mishra

Its funny how a rather ludicrious comparision has been drawn between Sufism and Hinduism.

First of all Sufism is not a 'sect'. Its a 'state of mind' or a 'school of thought'.

Sufism is not a product of Hindu Muslim 'infusion' in India. Modern day Sufism has its origins in Turkey, Iran and C.Asia.

If one reads the teanents of Sufism, like 'Tasuwwuf, Maarfat, Ishq, Vijdan' and so on, it will be clear that its a very strong monotheistic Islamic evolution of religious thought rather then so called 'infusion' with Hinduism.

Islam in the sub continent was spread by Sufis, who 'Practiced Islam and didn't have 'empty beliefs'.

@ajpirzada

Digesting Kashf ul maujoob ain't easy hommie. :D
you didn't get my point,i din't mean infusion of Hinduism in Islam is Sufism
debate was on weather Sufism represent certain culture or not ,in my view yes it is represent religion and certain culture as well ,that you can't ignore

the moment Sufi world came ,you started visualizing different people ,who has different practice and ritual, and that represent cultural aspect

Sufism is a mystic branch of Islam. Islam is a much bigger religion and faith than we are normally taught.

Once cannot say that he is a 'sufi', but rather, that he follows mystical nature of Islam. Cannot be sure if people who 'practice' Sufism are Muslims or not, as many in Sufism believes that Alcohol and Smoking help one reach their creator.

Muslims cannot drink alcohol or posses intoxicants.

looks like Indians sneaked across border to dance outside shrine of data ganj bakhsh :)

majority of sufis are muslims, some might have beliefs that are out of the fold of islam but in the end of the day only god knows best, if somebody claims to be a muslim nobody on earth has the right to tell him that he isn't and that even goes for ahmadis as well.

How the Sufi ways of singing and dancing are perceived by the orthodox schools of Islam? Are these allowed to be a part of the main stream practice?

First of all singing an dancing is 'discouraged' not 'prohibited' in Islam.

Secondly the 'Sufi whirl' is not exactly a dance. Its something you have to experiance to know.

I know it is not a dance but couldn't find the appropriate term for it. I know very little about this and was very surprised to read about their cardinal principle of Talif i Kulub. This moderate version is something we are simply unaware of and I would definitely like to read more how slowly the more intolerant version of Islam (The school of the Wahabis) sided them changing the history of this sub continent.

PS: There is a generalized view about Islam among mango people in India(this forum is an example).Perhaps an orgnaized study about Sufism might educate few of them.
