Turkeys engineering powerhouse STM has completed the development project of the Tank Command Control and Information System (TCCIS), which provides continuous, secure and reliable data communication at all levels, from a single tank to a tank battalion level. The development project of TCCIS was launched in March 2007 and the acceptance tests were completed in November 2010.
TCCIS has been developed indigenously, in line with the requirements of Turkish Land Forces Command and with the support of the Turkish Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). The functionalities of TCCIS, based on authorisation, can be used in all operational phases, including planning, execution, control and monitoring. The TCCIS is integrated with the other subsystems of the platform, and has mission briefing and debriefing functions, as well as decision support analysis tools. The TCCIS also features digital data exchange capabilities with other Command Control Information Systems used in the battle field.
TCCIS can be used on various platforms of the battalion task force due to its modular and expandable design. Depending on the capabilities of the platform, the modular architecture of the system allows fast customisation of new and existing functionalities on a specific platform.
The capabilities of the TCCIS can be summarised as follows:
■Tracking of common tactical situation information of both friend and foe units in near real time via digital maps
■Tactical information sharing, mission planning and coordination
■Exchange of digital orders, plans and reports
■Battlefield command and control
■Interaction with fire-control, vetronics, navigation systems
■Target distribution, assignment and engagement
■Fire planning
■Authentication and orientation
■Mission rehearsal
■Mission debriefing
The TCCIS includes training, mission rehearsal, course of action analysis and battle service support functions, which are used in conjunction with decision support tools (Line-of-Sight Analysis, Terrain Analysis, etc.). The TCCIS is designed to relieve the workload of the tank commander and crew by offering planning tools to minimise the time required for planning at all levels up to battalion level.
The experiences and technologies gained during the TCCIS Development Project are being utilised in the National Tank Production project. Upon the request of the user, the TCCIS may be integrated into the other elements of the Land Forces and will be a vital element in enabling Ground Vehicles to become a part of the Network Enabled Capability Concept.
