Stephen Hawking has suggested that aliens almost certainly exist but has warned humanity not to try to contact them.

One of the world's leading scientists makes the claim in a new television documentary series, beginning on the Discovery Channel next month.
Hawking says that in a universe with 100 billion galaxies, each containing hundreds of millions of stars, it is unlikely that earth is the only place where life has evolved.

"To my mathematical brain, the numbers alone make thinking about aliens perfectly rational," he said, according to The Sunday Times.
"The real challenge is working out what aliens might actually be like."
Hawking says that they could be microbes – basic animals such as worms which have been on Earth for millions of years, but suggests that extraterrestrial life could develop much further.
"We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet," Hawking said.
"I imagine they might exist in massive ships, having used up all the resources from their home planet. Such advanced aliens would perhaps become nomads, looking to conquer and colonise whatever planets they can reach."
The scientist, who is paralysed by motor neurone disease, warned that contact with alien life could spell disaster for the human race.
"If aliens ever visit us, I think the outcome would be much as when Christopher Columbus first landed in America, which didn't turn out very well for the American Indians."

Perhaps the wise old "man" is right.

If I ever come across an alien I'll pretend I dont know anything

The mathematical probability doesn't fly actually. Since from all the space we know, only one planet has life.

Till the number is greater than 1, the 100 billion galaxies may also not have life. Do you know how lucky we are to have life on Earth? It is the exact amount of close and far from the sun to support a habitable climate. The leading theory of the Earth's formation from the sun's escaping gases turning and spinnning from a disc shape to a ball shape, cooling down and then the meteoric impact that formed the moon, allowing for the Earth to reach its present perfect size, the formation of Jupiter that allowed to suck in all incoming large meteors allowing life to happen. Just too many things to go just right for life to happen.

Still if there was just one more planet with life - any life. That would raise the odds significantly.

man may be its true we have not to make any fun with his claim first check it.

You aren't exactly right.

We know a lot of planets in the known space, but we don't know for sure if any of them contain life. The universe is bigger than we can assume and scientists say it is always expanding.

Until recently we were skeptic about life on Mars, which is right inside our solar system.

I believe that there is life on other planets but the life might not be so complex or intelligent. It might be in the early stages of evolution even if it's more advanced than ours, travelling across millions of light years is still no easy feat.

In future when the Earth is inhabitable, Humans are gonna live in giant Spaceships ..something like what's shown in Wall:E (even though that's very exaggerated) ..We are planning to setup base on moon already.

There are also many theories about aliens already having connections with Humans etc etc.

When we usually imagine aliens, we imagine them as being proportionate to us in size ..which could not be the case. They might even be the size of insects.

The movie "K-Pax" is excellent on this subject. Might be the only sensible alien movie they have.

Prot: Let me tell you something, Mark. You humans, most of you, subscribe to this policy of an eye for an eye, a life for a life, which is known throughout the universe for its... stupidity.

Life in itself cannot be defined precisely, so no one can really say whether there is life out there or not (Or whether even we are alive, or whether we are more alive than the chair we sit in).

As far as recognizable intelligent life is concerned, in the last 50 years the scientific community has brought the number down from 10 million probable planets per medium sized galaxy to about 10000 probable planets per medium sized galaxy.

But let us look at some indispensable factors that should lead to the evolution of a biological intelligent life -

1. Building blocks of life - Helps begin life
2. Sustainable environment - Helps sustain life
3. Harsh environment (Yet not too harsh!) - Helps the life form develop intelligence to sustain itself
4. Go back to 2.

What do you think are the chances of this kind of cycle on any planet even in an entire galaxy filled with 100 Billion stars? And then, if that life form is more intelligent/advanced than our civilization, what need would it feel to utilize its resources in contacting us?

I believe if we improve our spiritual quotient, we may start recognizing other forms of life around us, and stop getting amazed by such news popping up every now and then. After all, even plants haven't been considered alive since ever.

Understanding the way life has evolved on planet Earth, and musing over the vastness of universe, one realizes that it is a mathematical improbability that life does not exist outside this realm.

Considering that Sun is a relatively young star (the universe is considered 13.5 billion years old and the sun is considered about 4.5 billion years old), imagine the lead some of these species might have in terms of evolution. A 100 intelligent humans from today, with all our libraries of information and preparation can annihilate the entire human race of the 1500s. Now imagine facing off against a species from a planet where life began a few billion years ago.

You are indeed a pathetic vermin. Such disrespect towards someone who is 100 times smarter than you and has contributed a billion times more than you. Stephen Hawking has probably contributed more to this world than ALL the scientists of India have together contributed DURING his lifetime.

We cant say anything for sure until another solar system (or even this one) has been fully explored, but there are certain facts and discoveries which cant be disregarded.

Life on earth alone is very resilient. They have found micro organisms surviving in lava, acidic environments, deep sea vents, bottom of the deepest oceans, frozen in Arctic and brought back to life. There was even a case of bacteria surviving on a camera lens on the moon.

Traces of water have also been discovered on the Moon and Mars. So there is little to say that Earth is in any way unique. Some might argue this solar system is unique but there is even less evidence to suggest that.

Well, it is not necessary that alien should look like us or similar. (with 2 hands and head and etc etc). They can be creature communicating with each other with means other than we know. There are zillions of possibilities.
