Steel Mills at Standstill

Musharraf resuscitated Steel Mills and in his time it was running in profit.

PPP looted it and bled it white and now its the turn of gunja.

Pakistan cant even become industrialized if it does not have steel mills.

thats the whole game, dropping its equity so that when these haramkhors sells it to themselves, they dont have to pay much.

same thing they been trying to do with PIA and other institutions.

Period for such "time being" ??? I mean how long would it last?
Why do you use such words like time being, may I know?
Because privatization of industries like PIA and PSM etc is a big political challenge and government would likely to delay any decision for at least a year or more given the country has just passed through a volatile political time.

Okey why doesn't Imran Khan come forth with his 100% halal khoor ex susral's funds and make a bid?
Oh sorry chanda lena paray ga....they wont give him a dime...

PIA has been losing money since many moons..And no cure at sight, only band-aid approach..

When the Haramkhore sell it even to themselves, it will stop costing Pakistani taxpayers money. So far it's a money pit throwing good money after bad makes no sense. Haramkhore will pay tax on the production and can no longer ask for taxpayers bailout.

Why not do that at once?

Political appointees will lose their jobs overnight, and since most are part of PPP or PML_N thats why they are dragging their feet. This requires a band aid solution.

democrazy will take time in Pakistan, you can already see the difference. The cycle has been broken first fatality PPP second one after the 5 year term and i hope they are allowed to finish PML_N.They can no longer blame their incompetence on military and ask to be given a second chance. So as i see it we suffered 60 some years, whats few more to get rid of the Blood sucking leeches.

Bad governance!
For example:

On Iran Pakistan gas pipeline:

an official told The Express Tribune. Under the deal, Pakistan may face a per day penalty of $3 million if it fails to implement the project by Dec 2014.

this is all bullshit, Pakistan steel can never run in profit its the 60's technology which cannot compete with the price of steel in world market and add to that Pakistanis kamchori, over staffing and inability and you are looking at a disaster of an industry. Running it in profit during Musharaf's time is nothing but a myth and playing with the number game. I could never understand Pakistani people's love for this steel mills why do you people feel so proud of this 60's Russian technology.

PSM faces a mother of all problems which is dumping of cheap Chinese steel. There is no shortage of steel in Pakistan. All of Pakistan's demand for steel is met by the steel mills in China that can dump its excess steel ( China has surplus production capacity with slowing new buildings ) because no Pakistani govt can act against its "higher than and deeper than blah blah blah".

India US and EU had to go to the WTO courts to protect themselves but Pakistan's hands are securely tied behind their backs when it comes to China and China will hollow out the few LSM capacity Pakistan has which is why Pakistan with a pop of 180 million still cannot produce anything but cotton and cloth. Pakistan's foreign policy ensures it will be always dependent on its overlord China and China wouldnt have it any other way.

Shut this thing and sell the land. This monstrosity should never have been built. It was one of the follies of Bhutto who did not understand business or economy.

PSM is responsible for retardation of Pakistan's engineering industry, because steel prices were kept high to subsidize its output. Now this trick can not be done and now we in Pakistan know the worth of this idiocy.

Government has no business being in business. Let this be an expensive lesson and let us actually learn it now for good.

Well said.

Unfortunately Pakistani educated elite is dominated by leftists (economically speaking) aka marxists.

What you say is truth, but they will never understand. And thus sarkari baboos in cahoots with marxists judges will never allow such industries to be closed/sold.

Bhutto as you say correctly, had no idea about industry. He was driven mad by his marxists friends.

He not only created PSM monstrosity all thanks to funding/tech from Commies Soviet union,

at the same time he nationalized every private factory worth a dime.

So it was a double edged sword that utterly destroyed Pakistani economy for good.

There is no way we can come out of this.

No way.

This is for the first time since its establishment three decades ago that “the mother of all industries” has come to a complete halt mainly because of poor maintenance and repairs as required by standard operating procedures and operational manuals despite internal warnings.

Isn't part of the problem also electricity generation, transmission, and distribution that is shutting down many industries in Pakistan?
