Sri Lanka's Central Expressway to get ADB, Japan, China finance

China’s MCC gets part of Sri Lanka central expressway contract

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has given Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC) a contract to build the first section of an expressway to the central region which is to be funded with a loan from China’s Exim Bank.

Government negotiations with MCC had fixed the total cost of the 32.5 km section from Kossinna to Mirigama at 145.8 billion rupees or 4.5 billion per kilometre, officials said.

The first phase of the Central Expressway, from the capital Colombo to Kandy in the central hills, consists of building the road section from Kadawatha to Meerigama.

A 5 km section from Kadawatha to Kossinna is expected to be completed from savings negotiated by the government in the third phase of the Outer Circular Highway being built by MCC.

MCC has already started preliminary work on the first 5km section of the central Expressway.

The Cabinet of Ministers last week approved a proposal for the Road development Authority to sign a contract with MCC to build the road section from Kadawatha to Meerigama of the Central Expressway.

It also approved the release of 500 million rupees by the Treasury immediately to pay compensation for land acquisition.

The finance ministry is to also seek a soft loan from Exim Bank of China for the project.

Great news!
This thread is the most enjoyable thread to me in South Asia section.
If I can only choose one country to visit in Asia, Sri Lanka is undoubtedly my choice.

Back to topic lol. Neat little trick to escape embarrassment. Ok will leave you alone Mr. Jinchansan.

What is your problem dude??? Why are you simply targetting him?? Sri Lanks is not as a small nation as you are thinking..It is one of the fastest developing nation in South Asia...It is a very good country and big enough country..

So can you stop getting personal and focus on topic?

@Nihonjin1051 seems like you are right. There's less red tape in Sri Lanka as opposed to India. After funding was sorted out, the project quickly started.

That is a good news..I would love to see Sri Lanka progress whatever it suits best to move forward.

This is a really old project.
There were a bunch of Malaysian investors in 2002 for the project but in 2005 Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power and the project stopped because of the political problems.

The project continued to be delayed because MR spent more time on South.

Finally when it was about to start the elections came and the regime changed but this time it wasnt stopped and work continued
