Saarc nations need to discuss how to tackle cross-border terror, says Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickramasinghe

NEW DELHI: Cross-border terrorism is a big issue and Saarc nations need to discuss how to tackle it, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe said on Wednesday.

Backing India's initiatives in the aftermath of Uri terror attack, Wickramasinghe said, "Your PM (PM Modi) has taken a lot of steps to defuse tension."

Wickramasinghe ruled out war as an option between India and Pakistan.


On his country's relations with China, Sri Lankan PM said "Our relationship with China is an economic one, not military."

Earlier, Nepal had also urged the Saarc nations not to let terrorists use their soil for cross-border terror.
The 19th Saarc summit in Islamabad scheduled for November had to be cancelled after India and other nations announced their decision to pull out of the meet.

"To achieve peace and stability in the region, Saarc member states must, among others, ensure that their respective territories are not used by terrorists for cross border terrorism," Nepal said while formally announcing the postponement of the summit.
