Sri Lanka will support Japanese UN Security Council bid: PM

I think , @TaiShang , the focus is on the UNSC non-permanent membership. Even if Permanent membership will not be structurally changed, we can still see efficacious roles of Japan and India in the non-permanent membership committee in the UN Security Council.

I suppose that is enough to assuage critical developing trends in the global panel.

UNSC non-permanent membership (10 countries in total) alternates every two-year, right?

So, the position is open to Japan, India and others as long as they receive enough support.

That's quite different from the permanent 5.

Yes, and i think that is what the Japanese legation has been assuaging the Sri Lankans and recently the Bangladeshis in. Not actual UNSC-5 structural reform. I think we have been miscommunicating from the start in that regard.

Oh, that's indeed a big miscommunication :)

Yes, countries elbow each other at every election session at the UNSC non-permanent membership elections.

I guess the new elections is less than a week from today.

Along with Bangladesh, Japan is a candidate in Asia-Pacific region. I guess Japan will take the seat.

I suppose election into the Non permanent membership is more rigorous for some since gaining support from peer governments requires appropriate confidence building measures such as , but not limited to, intergovernmental loans, and of course increased private investments into local industry. In this aspect, Japanese legation has to be active especially during the peri-election season.

Undoubtedly, the permanent members of the UNSC don't have to worry about such issues. But we have to deal with the cards we are dealt with. Or in Chinese: 自己招惹事情,由自己承擔不良的後果. Did i write it alright?

Let's not mix up different things.

None of the 5 UNSC members claimed that they support increase of new UNSC member states with veto rights.

Besides, if UNSC were reformed by adding more members, China would support India instead of Japan.
I was not talking about support
I was saying they will oppose n veto d inclusion of a new member
@the jpnese: dont spew nonsense here please
