Sri Lanka way ahead in South Asia - Indian High Commissioner

Sri Lanka is way ahead of India in achieving Millennium Development Goals said Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Ashok Kantha.

He was addressing the 23rd annual sessions of the OPA (Organisation of Professional Associations, Sri Lanka).

Emphasising the OPA’s theme for the session, Vision 2020: The Way Forward’, he said, “Sri Lanka’s track record for growth has been fairly high in spite of the conflict situation that hampered development.” The High Commissioner said that the country’s development has progressed immensely after peace was restored and could achieve the Millennium Development Goals faster than India.

Kantha said, “India is very keen on working with Sri Lanka to forge economic partnerships and the mutual exchange of knowledge among professionals will benefit both sides.”

The Senior Advisor to the President said that Asia is spearheading growth in the world and Sri Lanka is also one of the second-tier countries contributing to it. “If we maintain our GDP at 8 percent in the next four to five years, this would be sufficient for the nation’s growth,” he said.

Time for Sri Lanka to get there bumbs aka A$$ on run... They should focus on education... trading, business setup... They should focus on taking stake in other countries so that there growth will be substantially faster.. Private players should be given equal opportunity.. Further they should concentrate on local demand.... i mean there economy should have influence of local market(like india).. though very tough with less population but government has to step-up to make it viable

All in all, Asia is developing. We have the potential and its visible with the growth, some glitches would always be there, but success tastes better when it not easy to achieve.

SL is a country with huge potential and can become a regional trading hub. Its sea location is also strategic. Its the only country in SAARC which has more per capita income than India, ignoring Maldives/Bhutan as they are too small. We should look forward for more and more trade and economic cooperation.

Since Sri Lanka don't have problem with terrorism, it will be at least trading hub if not the economic power.

It is located in the indian ocean and if Sri Lanka go ahead with lot of ports development, its economy may get boost.

Come on now Don't be so naive, if our Babus actually put in a proper effort on all fronts rather than seek their own agendas.

We would have the Naxal dispersed by now.

Our security apparatus is both large enough and Trained enough to handle them.

Some Look at States like AP that focused on Naxals and removed significantly pushed them back.

But other states have babus still procrastinating.

Also We trained some on those Sri Lankan Army officials.
Having them Train us is not going to make an Iota of difference.
