Sri Lanka to sign new defence pacts with India, Rajapakse's visit to run into Tamil protests
Sri Lanka will be entering into several new defence pacts with India in the coming days. The official discussions will also review the status of previous cooperation commitments between the two neighbors, reports said. President Rajapakse's visit is also expected to run into Tamil protests.
The pacts will be signed during President Rajapakse's officials visit to India starting tomorrow, reports in Colombo said. Among the pacts to be entered into are the 'agreement to curb crimes', 'narcotics trafficking' and measures against international terrorism, reports said.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka President Rajapakse's officials visit to India starting tomorrow will meet with protests, reports from India said. A Tamil group called "Viduthalai Siruththaikal' led by Thirumavalavan MP, will stage the protests.
Thirumavalavan who earlier visited Sri Lanka with the DMK parliamentarians, said that he is planning to protest 'Sri Lanka's lack of efforts to rehabilitate and aid the Tamils wounded and displaced by the war'.
