Sri Lanka : Sri Lanka ranks within Top 10 of the World Giving Index

Sri Lanka is one of the ten most generous countries in the world, according to the recently released 2014 World Giving Index (WGI) report.

According to the annual report released by the Charities Aid Foundation, Sri Lanka is the most generous country in the subcontinent placing 9th out of 135 countries with a score of 54.

Sri Lanka ranked at the third place for participation in volunteering time but ranked at 40 for helping a stranger and at 17 for donating money.

It is also normal when conflicts end for the economy of that country to improve, and a growing economy can enable more people to be charitable. In Sri Lanka, the initial increase in charitable behaviors occurred prior to the economy picking up, but continuing growth no doubt facilitates an environment for sustained giving.

Myanmar and the U.S. shared a 64% generosity rating and ranked at the top of the index while Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia placed in the Top 5 countries.

In the South Asia region India ranked at 69th place, Pakistan at 61, Bangladesh at 72 and Nepal at 44th place.

When you have disposable income in the general populace it's easy to be charitable.. I think in this aspect Lankans are far above the rest of South Asia.. Also most being religious also plays a part

Yours is a small nation with a limited population unlike the other South Asian countries, you can afford to be charitable.... congratulations

Myanmar tops the list along with the US.. Both Myanmar and Sri Lanka are major Buddhist nations.. Charity is a major component of Buddhism.. So that may count as well

There are many larger and smaller nations above and below on this list though. Population size might matter for administration/infrastructure/government issues, but this is a cultural thing I think.

It's not constructive to point towards the size of a country for literally everything.
