Kerala's high literacy rates and health indicators are are direct success's of socialist policies of state govts over the years especially in the 60's and 70's.. There are many similarities between SL and Kerala.. I've been to the state many times from Trivandrum to Cochi..The similarities of the country side is uncanny.. Even the food

Congratulations SL. Thats our goal too.

No excuses, but India's challenge lies in its diversity and fragmentation. Countries like Sri Lanka and BD have the best chance of acceleration IMO.

I have heard many positive things about Goa and Kerala but I haven't idea about chandigarh.
Thanks for the information!

yes of all the states kerala is one of the states which showed extreme commitment to human development consistently.we need more decentralization in administration to succeed if u observe all the union territories comes under high developed category..which tells the same story..recently govt has devoted some amount of budget for less developed states.hope they'll catch up too soon..with of having human development all the gdp and growth rates are worth less..its good that govt across the globe are taking hdi seriously..

I have heard many positive things about Goa and Kerala but I haven't idea about chandigarh.

Sri Lanka with his relatively less population and high literacy levels would have already been categorized as a "developed" nation if not the civil war. Congrats to the Lankans - they are my fave cricket team after India.

Good to see Sri Lanka progressing. Frankly speaking Living standard of South India is equal or greater than Sri Lanka. its States in North like UP, Bihar which pull down both per capita as well as HDI of the entire country :hitwall:

While I agree that the standard of living is better in South India than UP / Bihar as are literacy levels, I don't buy the argument that South India would be equal or greater than Sri Lanka.

stop cursing things are improving.bihar noted the largest growth rate and is doing extremely doing well in recent years.govt is showing special interest in these states including north east..it may take some time for that economic growth to get convreted in to hhuman development thats all
Bihar registers 16.71 per cent growth rate | NDTV.com
