India loves interfering in the affairs of other countries, but whines to high heaven about other countries interfering in India. This has been the story since independence.

Exactly, that's what BIG BROTHERS do! They are well capable of taking care of themselves that's why do not entertain the youngers to interfere.

Different states in India have different number plates. Same here in Australia, all states have different number plates, same in America, same in Pakistan.

You seem confused with Federal and State governments and their powers. This should help. Check out the state and union(central/federal) list.

Different states in India have different number plates. Same here in Australia, all states have different number plates, same in America, same in Pakistan.

It is a trend in some states to have number plates in local language. the picture you posted is written in Kannada IINM.

I have Tamil friends and I have Tamils in my staff, I have Tamil neighbors around my home, They invite their weddings ect, we do the same,
Next to the Buddhist temple, Hindu temples, few meters away then catholic churches, and then mosques...

Actually thats illegal. There are only 2 types of number plates:Black letters on white background for private vehicles, and black letters on yellow background for public vehicles(taxies, trucks etc). Each number starts with two letters that denote the state in which the vehicle was registered like KA for Karnataka,TN for Tamil Nadu, WB for West Bengal etc. Of course armed forces have separate number plates. As far as I know the number plates should be in English.

Are the Kashmiris and the Assamese happy? Why was there a movement for a separate Khalistan which was brutally put down by the Indian government (but lives on in the Punjabi diaspora)?

And secondly, is India game to allow each of its states (which are nations unto themselves) to decide whether or not they wish to remain in the Indian union? After all, if everything is hunky dory all of them would vote against secession.

Thirdly, what works for India may or may not work for Sri Lanka. India is a huge country, Sri Lanka is not.

Giving control of 30% of the Sri Lankan land mass and 60% of the coastline to something around 7% of the population, as well as police powers, is highly inappropriate in my opinion, especially when that population is lead by political leaders who were in bed with the LTTE and considered their mouthpieces.

Issue at hand is provincial autonomy..

Punjabi police is manned by punjabis

This happened way back in 1947. Each and every state had the option to join India, Pakistan or remain independent.

The result is what you see as indian union.

Fair argument. But, its well worth a try, especially if it makes srilankans (both sinhalese and tamils) happy.

They are as much a citizen of srilanka as you are.

Even in repressive India, States have their own police and government irrespective of how much land or shoreline they control.

Here in Maharashtra it's illegal to use anything other than English on the num. plate and the numbers have to be clearly legible. Some people like to go out of their way and choose fancy fonts that cost them around 200 INR a week in police bribes, or much more if they get caught by senior traffic police.
