Dear colleagues,

Does anyone know what is the PAF criteria for sqdn re-equipment when new a/c are inducted.

when PAF received the original 40 F-16, blk 15 a/c, PAF re-equipped No's 11 and 14 Sqdns.
after the loss of 8 a/c due to attrition, which two sqdns are flying the 32 a/c (now 4 a/c added) bringing total to 36. i know No 11 sqdn still flies F-16s, which is the other sqdn?. it is not No 14 because they have re-equipped with Mirage5EF-Rose111.

Who will get re-equipped when the balance of the 28 embargoed F-16 blk 15s (24 a/c) are delivered in 2008?
Who will get the big prize when the F-16 blk 50/52s are delivered.?

Fatman :P,

You forgot the premier fighter sqn of the Pakistan Air Force which is the No. 9 MR "Griffins" Sqn. So the "Tail choppers" No 14 MR had to give up their F-16s over to No 9 and No 11 (Arrows) sqns. 14 Sqn was re-equipped with F-7PGs (I am not sure if you are correct about Mirage 5EF being flown by 14 Sqn).

My own take is that when additional F-16s have been acquired then No 14 will again revert back to F-16 blk 15s. Once the blk 52s come in, they will probably go over to No. 9 sqn first.

blain2 - pls check sept issue of AFM which has article on Minhas-AB home to 33rd TW. 14 sqdn tail-choppers are part of the 33rd TW flying Mirage 5EFs.

yes u r right about No 9 sqdn Griffens is the premier sqdn
so if we go by your criteria

theoratically this would happen

No 9 will get 18 F-16 blk 52 when they r delivered
No 11 will get 18 F-16 blk 52 when they r delivered
No 14 will get 18 F-16 MLU

this leaves 42 F-16 MLUs. i guess 12 F-16Bs will be part of the OCU unit (what sqdn no?)
that will leave 30 F-16 MLUs to be assigned to 2 more sqdns (15 each) so they will be under strength

I don't have the AFM article in front of me but from what I remember when I read it, 14 sqn was equipped with F-7Ps after the F-16s were withdrawn and aggregated at Mushaf. Also as per the AFM article, this sqn along with a sister Mirage (Rose) sqn is part of the 33rd TW. Not all of the sqns within 33rd TW are Mirage equipped.

See this thread that you started yourself ;) :
http://www.defence.pk/forums/military-aviation/7159-paf-base-minhas.html

So..
No 14 sqn - F-7Ps
No 25 sqn - Mirage 5 (ROSEII/III)

On the F-16 split, some aircraft will go over to CCS and that would pretty much even out the F-16 inventory on a per/sqn basis.

CCS does not have F-16s of its own. They fly birds of 9 or 11 squadron. However, CCS F-7 and Mirage are independent sqdns with full inventory.
Few corrections for the below squadrons from the data provided by Fatman:-

No.15 Squadron Mirage Rafiqui
No.17 Squadron F-7PG Samungli
No.18 Squadron F-7P OCU Mianwali
No.19 Squadron F-7P Mianwali
No.20 Squadron F-7PG Rafiqui
No.23 Squadron F-7PG Samungli
No.24 Squadron Falcon 20 F Sargodha
No.25 Squadron Mirage Kamra(know as PAF Minhas)
No.27 Squadron Mirage Rafiqui

x_man- i am sure u meant update the data provided by me.

correction is if the data which was circa 1998 was wrong
update is as u have done - updated the 1998 data to 2007

correction is if the data which was circa 1998 was wrong
update is as u have done - updated the 1998 data to 2007

SO you think your Info if updated you have missed at least 20 crashes between 1974 to 1984.

muradk - we are only discussing which sqdns are equipped with which platforms (chinese/french/US), we are not counting numbers of active a/c.
in 1998 many sqdns had F-6s, which were replaced over the last 9 years by F-7PGs. some sqdns which had mirages were upgraded to various ROSE configs. (used mirages were procured from AUS/Libya etc).there was no additions in F-16s until last year.
hope to have clarified.
