Spice Jet resumes flights on Chattogram-Kolkata route since Jan 6

CHATTOGRAM: After remaining suspended for eight months due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Chattogram-Kolkata direct flight of Spice Jet will resume on January 6 next, officials of the airlines said.

"Spice Jet will operate flights on Chattogram-Kolkata route four days per week under the India-Bangladesh Bubble agreement," officials at the airlines' Chattogram office told the FE on Saturday.

They said flights will be operated on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
"The first flight of Spice Jet will leave Kolkata on Saturday at 7:30am (local time) and reach Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram's Patenga 50 minutes later at 8:30am BST (Bangladesh Standard Time), they stated.

The aircraft will leave Shah Amanat International Airport the same day at 11am BST and reach Kolkata at 11:50am local time, said the officials.

Each flight will follow the same schedule of departure and arrival in both cities on the next three days of every week - Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - till further notice, they added.
Sources said Spice Jet stopped flight operation on Chattogram-Kolkata route on April 11, 2021, due to a series of coronavirus-induced general holidays and nationwide lockdown in Bangladesh amid the emergence of the second wave of the pandemic.

Wives of Chittagong Sowdagars will be happy now.

Apparently, per one of my Calcutta Dada friends, Bangladeshi tourists are the highest tippers in Calcutta Restaurants and hotels. Sometimes their plain dress and unassuming ways belie their wealth and generosity.

When a large party of Bangladeshis arrive at a Calcutta restaurant, all the waiters run that way to their table in hope of big tips, much to the consternation of the local customers, who usually are kanjoos tippers.

I lived in Cox's Bazaar and Halishahar in Chittagong a long time ago. Whatever their dresses look like or their living style is, Chittagong Saudagar people are really rich. Many of them start their carrier by smuggling contraband goods from foreign ships.

I met one Saudagar in a hotel room in Tokyo. He came to marketing Tuna fish that are available in the Indian Ocean as well as BoB. The Japanese call it Indo-Maguro. It is more delicious than the North Pacific one.

A destitute Bangladeshi came to meet him and wanted his help. He was probably from Chittagong and I don't know why a destitute when he can work. But the Saudagar donated $200 without asking any questions.

I have also met some of these people while in Chittagong. They are big-hearted and pay alms/ zakat to the needy as per the religious teachings or more than that.

No wonder that Kolkatta restaurant/ hotel guys would be happy to have them as guests, thanks to the Spicejet airlines. Other markets will be equally invigorated with their arrival, especially if they go with their free-spending womenfolks.
