No one - neither secular folks nor religious folks - claims that the legal rulings of any country represent correct ethical values and true morality. The two are separate and distinct.

How many legal verdicts of a country have been considered unethical or immoral at a later date? At one time in America, slavery was legal; discrimination against other skin colors was legal; mass incarcerations against people of a different ethnicity was legal, and the list goes on and on. Even today, there are rulings that are technically legal yet opposed by large segments of the population (for example, abortion). The fact that a court rules something to be legal does not make it ethically valid for a particular faith tradition.

From the perspective of mainstream, normative Islamic law, any type of sexual union outside of marriage is unethical and immoral. This includes pre-marital, extra-marital and same-sex unions. The fact that none of these types of sexual encounters is deemed illegal in a country does not matter to us in terms of religious law: we believe that any Muslim who commits such acts has transgressed Islamic norms and should repent. Committing such an act does not disqualify one from being a Muslim, and his or her affair is with their Lord.

Just as Muslims understand that drinking alcohol is legal in America (and most countries in the world), yet unethical in Islam, so too should they understand that any sexual union outside of the bounds of marriage, as defined by the Shariah, is also unethical, even if legal in some countries. If some people drink alcohol in this land, that is their business, and we are not obliged to stop them, but we will believe that drinking alcohol is harmful to the body and soul, and we will preach this. The same applies for sexual matters as well: there are limits laid down by Islamic law, and we will continue to maintain those limits in our beliefs, and try to maintain them in our personal lives.

American Muslims have easily navigated through the potential conflict between the law of the land and of Islamic law when it comes to issues of alcohol, drugs, and pre- and extra-marital sex. Now, in light of the US Supreme Court's recent legalization of same-sex unions, they just need to add this latest issue to that list.

Lastly, just as all of us Western Muslims have non-Muslim friends (at college, or work, or our neighbors) who drink and 'party', yet we get along fine with them in civil society and benefit from their companionship in our lives, it shouldn't at all be a stretch to understand that people of alternative sexual orientations as well can be our colleagues and neighbors and classmates, and there is no need at all to be preach hatred against them or discriminate in any fashion or form.
In fact, our religion commands us to be ideal role models for all people of all backgrounds.

If you're a Muslim, know that what Allah and his Messenger (peace be upon him) have deemed moral is what is indeed moral. Our perceptions and biases which are shaped by media, culture, political agendas, time, etc. along with our inherently flawed human nature can never surpass divine wisdom and revelation. If you believe the Quran isn't the word of God and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) isn't a divinely inspired Messenger, you are free to make your own judgments in accordance with whatever you deem sound. Otherwise this verse should suffice:

"It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair." (33:36)

Those who don't believe this book is divine and timeless in it's wisdom will opt for deviant baseless interpretations of scripture due to their deviant desires. Extremists on all sides will butcher the Religion to fit their desired goals. But as a believer, no one can ever take your natural inclination to truth away from you. It's your Fitrah.

As our Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us to say every morning and every evening:

"I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, Islam as my religion, and Muhammad (peace be upon him) as my Prophet and messenger."

The world is getting more stupid day by day...home***uality is a curse...

Stop involving yourself in other people's affairs.

Live your life how you want to live it. Let others live theirs how they see fit.

The above can be applied to 99% of the problems that exist in the world today including homosexuality.

IMO the scholars wanted to make it clear that westerners can't expect muslims to conform to secular liberal values. Muslims have certain red lines just like every other community. Islamophobes can't expect muslims to go out of those red lines under the guise of "assimilation". They have to be tolerant to muslim minorities and not expect muslims to change their religion as politicians in UK , France and some other genocidal states in EU r demanding.

This is the key quote. He is saying to get along with everybody without discrimination, just like the SC said. What is the problem here?

May be he is saying that muslims should not be ostracized for their beliefs and muslims have the right to preach the truth without being labeled as "homophobic" or "extremist".

Btw u should read & watch Dr. Yasir Qadhi's lectures. May be u will learn a thing or two. He is a very knowledgeable scholar . A graduate of Islamic university of Medina.

Muslims are covered by the same freedoms guaranteed to all other US citizens, without anyone being able to enforce their own belief system on anyone else, equally. They are free to preach whatever they wish, just like all others are allowed to air their views.

Discriminate not, and you won't be discriminated against, either. Simple.

American Muslims should have no public position. Abstain from having any position just as the Jews are. That being said, for our community make sure the teens don't accept these ideas for themselves and remain having clear education on Islam.

U say that but hypocrisy & duplicity is hallmark of secular liberal states . Lately secular liberal UK, France etc , states that also guaranteed similar freedoms , have passed laws criminalizing "non-violent extremism" with their politicians like David cameroon asking muslims to choose between "british values " & "silently condoning extremism" .

It does not matter what I say. What the Supreme Court decides becomes law of the land applied equally to all. That is good enough for me.

Even couple of decades earlier the western health professionals considered this abomination to be a disease/disorder but today its completely turned upside down with "homophobia " considered to be social taboo in the west. This is what happens when u have a joke system called secularism/liberalism that doesn't have any moral benchmark to lean back to . Its essentially an ideology that promotes blatant hedonism, immorality & corruption. Westerners also want to promote this abomination in muslim lands via their resident dalals.

What do you expect in Dar al Harb ? It is called that for a reason ....

There is no law in America that stops Muslims from practicing their faith. One just needs to follow their faith and common sense to practice his or her religion within the boundaries of lawful acts.
