KARACHI: Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Rizwan Akhtar has disclosed that some leaders of ruling party were backing gangsters in Lyari, Geo News reported.

This was disclosed in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to review law and order situation in Karachi on Friday.

Briefing PM Nawaz on Lyari, DG Rangers said the major reason of deteriorating situation in Lyari was political backing. Gangsters could not be tackled till removal of political umbrella, he added.

In the meeting, PM Nawaz directed Ministry of Interior to expedite blocking of illegal mobile SIMs and use biometric system for issuance of SIMs.

He directed Sindh government and rangers to take action against land-mafia illegally grabbing state lands.
