R Gandhi reports confidentially that a substantial portion of the funds obtained through this channel are used to support the party of R Gandhi’.”Albats has also disclosed that, in December 2005, KGB chief Victor Chebrikov had asked for authorisation from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, “to make payments in US dollars to the family members of Rajiv Gandhi, namely Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ms Paola Maino, mother of Sonia Gandhi.” And even before Albats’ book came out the Russian media had leaked out the details of the pay-offs.

Based on the leaks, on July 4, 1992, The Hindu had reported: “the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service admits the possibility that the KGB could have been involved in arranging profitable Soviet contract for the company controlled by Rajiv Gandhi family”.

The fact that he is IIT graduate and had been ex CM of Goa does not add anything - the way he has handled the boat operation and DRDO chief 's termination both show his immaturity and to that effect I agree with Mr Ajai Shukkla's assessment and analysis .

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar was referring to IK Gujral, say sources, when he dropped a bombshell by alleging that "some former Prime Ministers compromised India's deep assets" on national security.

Inder Kumar Gujral was the Prime Minster for just under a year in 1997-98, at the head of a United Front government supported by the Congress. He died in 2012.

Mr Parrikar did not name anyone when he made the comment while explaining why he did not want to reveal details about a Coast Guard operation on December 31 in which a boat from Pakistan blew up after being intercepted off the Gujarat coast. The source of information might have been compromised, he said.

Sources said today that the Defence Minister was referring to the dismantling of India's intelligence network in neighbouring countries during his tenure as PM, under what was called the Gujral Doctrine on foreign policy.

A furious Congress, which has been in power for much of the past six decades and has given the country six of its 17 Prime Minsters, asked the minister to either give names or apologise. Congress leader Manish Tewari said the Defence Minister has made a "very grave charge."

At an event in Mumbai Mr Parrikar said about the Pakistan boat that blew up, "We intercepted it from 200 km away. For 24 hours, the boat was going in circles. Is that not enough proof? What more do you (reporters) want? I was asked to give 'proof' but I refused. I said 'absolutely not' because the source might be compromised. You have to build assets and you have to build deep assets. Deep assets are assets which have to be created over 20-30 years, but this country has seen PMs who have compromised deep assets. I won't take names. Many people know."

Opposition parties, including the Congress, had questioned the Coast Guard operation and demanded evidence that the vessel that exploded with four men on it, was carrying suspected terrorists.

Mr Parrikar mocked the Congress for making the demand. "Tomorrow, during such an operation, we will take along a cameraman and also the Congress spokesperson," he said.

I dont think the time frame gives you a clear idea, because it says the assets are established over 20-30 years, but some PM compromised it...... when was this compromised is not specifically mentioned. More over entire world knows about the goof up of IKG and morarji, and his comment doesn't make any sense of any relevance today.... Knowing Indian politics i get a feel he is hinting at MMS, and look at congress reaction to this statement which kind of confirms it.....

It is pretty evident that the boat interception operation was totally botched up...Now instead of keeping mouth closed Mr Parrikar went to media to give press releases about Botched up operation ...to add to the agony he directly took aim at Pakistan army without giving any tangible evidence ( not that it makes any difference to Pak ...evidence or no evidence ....they will always deny ...but in the process Indian's credibility in front of international community took hit .

On top of that Mr parrikar came up with Cyanide theory and similar nonsense .

If that was not enough - he went on to drag Ex PMS to justify his act ....which is no way connected .

He was the one who initially asserted that India has got intercepts of communication ..and then he made U trurn and refused to divulge further .

We did show communication excerpts to International community in aftermath of 26/11 as well as kargil war ...

so what so special this time ....

Why would they give tangiable evidence to the public? Releasing details could hurt our operational ability? Folks like you expect Modi to change India overnight, yet had no f-king issue with the way Congress was running India for over 50 yrs! YOu don't want US relations to go forward and want Modi and Parrikar to fail. Who needs enemies when we have citizens like yourself.

Be open minded. I like the direction where India is heading. Remember, these guys have information that is not available to the public.


As for Kargil, think about it. We had to publicize the intercepts to show the international community. It was electronic interception.....but things have changed 15 yrs since then. Why give our enemies a clue as to how to counter what we have now?
