thats the wonderful movie....but many Indians are against this movie as the director pictured some ugly places of india and also showed some Indian Hindu-Muslim conflicts in which a muslim women who was the mother of the film's hero, killed without any reason. So, they oppose those parts of films....but i think that was a excellent film. thanks.

The Co-Director is an Indian! The crew helming the Important departments are indian and what more do you want? I admit its not entirely an Indian movie, but whatever Danny touched has not become Gold! Trainspotting was a cult hit, it never garnered this much money, fame or awards! And you say Danny was this big before! He was Big, Bigger than many Bollywood directors, but Danny established himself thru Slum dog!

But what do you all say about Rahman. He is deserved it for 'RDB', 'TAAL' ,'LAGAN' ,'ROZA' and a lot others ain't he???But wasn't awarded, and now for a good but not so great 'jai ho' they have awarded him.Isn't it racism towards subcontinent???

Danny boyle is a renowned director. Everything he touches becomes instantly Gold. I seriously don't see how people keep relating a Movie with a complete "Foreign" crew, an achievement by "India".

10 15% yes, Not entirely.

As Duhastmish said, If the U.S makes a movie about Iraq or Afghanistan, does that mean that it's an achievement for all the Iraqi/Afghani People?

Lol. Thanks for the laugh!

"seriously don't see how people keep relating a Movie with a complete "Foreign" crew, an achievement by "India"."

helo,
what r u talking man??
Have u heard any one named Loveleen Tandan??
Yes,she is the co-director and Casting Director of Slumdog Millionaire She is an indian.

Few days ago there were demands from feminist groups to include her name in the nomination for best director list at the oscars.
U say u have been very busy lately on IMDB,but still missed her name.okay.

what about AR Rahman , Resul Pookutty,Gulzar
or MrVikas Swarup who is author of the book Q & A on which the movie is based on??

oh forget it.

I mentioned the 10-15% effort didn't I? If I start providing the rest of the people's names here who've helped made that movie in what it is today, you'd forget about the "Minor" number of Indian people. Hence, it's useless to do that. Since you're all hung up on the fact that it's an "Indian" achievement, I'd let you have your little "Moment" there for celebration! Enjoy

So in ur opinion we should feel only 10-15% happy about Slumdog Millionaire .

It was a film made on india, by a british director, making it a forgein film...
Do u expect them to use british actors, obviously they are going to use indian actors when the film is based on india, this fact does not make it a indian film.

You can feel happy all you want, it won't change the fact that movie was based on india, but was not an indian film.

They felt that the slums and slumdwellers were depicted negatively.
As victims?

You are unwilling to understand, aren't you. Its not about night shots. Its about sound control, crowd control, constructing the shot, about trying to shoot a scene in the middle of a slum without being

a) chased away by the slumdwellers for disrupting their lives
b) mobbed by fans
c) unable to control the environment

It required a tremendous amount of technical accomplisment and expertise, which bollywood doesn't have. Why do you think it swept the technical fields at the oscars?
Ever heard about making sets? Or if its done in the slums how did the hollywood folks control the crowds? This point just ins't true.
Face facts dude, the reason the conservative folks in India are protesting this is not because of anything else other than it making India look a little bad.

I'm not going to bother posting inteviews with the cast and crew which validate my point,
so you're not going to validate your points.

but they are out there if you wish to find out how Danny Boyle created a first of sorts by shooting a mainstream film in an uncontrolled slum environment.
It is a well shot movie. Who is debating that?

You didn't address my argument at all.
That I am an India-hater? How is that of any relevance and when you start a thread called "All about Asim Aquil" I'd be more than willing to comment about what sort of person I am.

Okay, this is so lame I won't even bother commenting.
You just did.

True, but slums are also growth engines of the city. They are incredibly energetic places, and they are the stepping stone for many people to lead better lives.
Their bodies are being mutilated, children are being raped and made into prostitutes. Dude, this is simply not true.

If you think that the slums of mumbai are forgotten places with no hope, you couldn't be more wrong. These slumdwelles are mostly migrants from other parts of the country, who choose to live in these conditions in order to earn some more money and hope for a better future for their kids. They work in schools, hospitals, domestic servants, factories, call centers etc. etc.
How many of them work in those places and yet live in the slums? Even the movie's tea boy had to move out of the slums before he could land a chai-wala job.

They coulkd have used Pakistani actors / actresses as well. Why didnt they. Infact even when they made a film based in Pakistan ' A Mighty heart', they gave Irfan Khan a chance and shot it in India. I wonder why?

And here is our GREAT discussing India based on a movie he saw.
Read the thread title... I'm discussing things on topic. You're discussing me.

Pockets of it. Now compare the size of both.
I'll even say Pakistan has larger slums. Happy? We're not shrugging our dirt and fooling the world about it.

Oh please.
There is no need to beg.

I never knew movies were suppose to expose the real glare. Now i know why Pakistani arent maming any.
Art has often shone a light upon reality and more often artists have been shunned for exposing that truth.

Lets just forget it. Its obvious that Asim and Bezerk here are simply interested in making snide comments about poverty in India, and simply shout out any other points of view.

If they just needed Indian Actors then they could have settled with it. Why choose Indian Composer, Why choose Indian Sound Designer, Why choose an Indian Co- Director!

As victims?.

No as culprits. lol

'He and his crew threw themselves into shooting their drama in the streets and landmarks of India's "city of dreams" using passers-by as extras. They also shot in the Dharavi -- Asia's largest slum -- and Juhu slum which can be seen from the city's airport.'.

Shooting 'Slumdog' in Mumbai, city of extremes - CNN.com

How do you know it better? There are people in this board who have personally gone and done rehabilitation work in these slums. For the normally well off guys slums are 'sad places'. But you need to there to see the truth and believe it.
