Deputy External Affairs Minister Ajith P. Perera today dismissed the statement made by his Chinese counterpart yesterday that the Chinese-funded Port city project will resume.

Speaking to media at a press conference a short while ago, Minister Perera rejected the Chinese media reports which quoted the nation’s Assistant Minister of Chinese Foreign Affairs Liu Jianchao stating that the Port City project is back on track.

He said it was not even a subject of discussion - either during the meeting between the two Presidents or during President Sirisena's discussions with top officials of the Chinese government.

"No decision has been made on whether the project will be completely halted or continued or concerning the issues that have been highlighted regarding the project. The only mention by President Sirisena with concern to the project was that it’s a temporary issue and that Sri Lanka continues to welcome Chinese investors, which in no way implies that the Sri Lankan government or the President has given the green light for the project to continue," he added. SL contradicting Chinese claims. Comically embarrassing.

Are the Chinese so desperate for this project that they make fake claims which would inevitably be denied?

Anyway, :coffee:.

This could be just for public consumption. People are whining about this project for reasons that even they don't know. Even at the time when the project was suspended, they continued to fill the sea secretly.

The current SL government is run by idiots.
Yeah sadly. They are destroying all the development projects started by previous government including city beautification projects. If only MR kept his track. :(

@Gibbs

.
But this project will surely have some benefits to Sri Lanka's economy at least.

@Gibbs

Destroying or cancelled any projects ? Not that i'm aware of..Ofcause i'm not in the country.. Do you know any specific projects they have cancelled or destroyed ? Some are suspended owing to investigations of corruption and misappropriation of the previous regime.. Including some of the biggest Indian projects to date.. (Wonder why anybody fails to mention that) :azn: After all that was the mandate this govt got the power from the people for

Yes there are a lot of short comings.. But the govt is in for a short time.. They are to be dissolved in a couple of months time.. The priority for them and the mandate given is to change the constitution/Stop corruption and to bring those who were involved in unprecedented massive frauds to book.. Which i think they are on par.. Ofcause legally not by abducting in white vans

As for their failures or success.. Let the Sri Lankan people choose what to do with them come the next gen elections.. Is'nt that what it's all about ?

One thing i do agree on with you guys is that from top to bottom their PR skills suck.. They are all stupid wankers with big mouths from RW to this unheard joker of a deputy foreign minister
