Skills not just worthless VERY expensive pieces of paper that carry little weight and even after getting it employers still ask for a bloated resumes and years of experience.
So many people become jobless fools with degrees, still think it's a status symbol and look down upon the blue collar worker who does make decent living on 50-90k blue collar jobs.
Skill development and apprenticeships are also important for developing important industries. You may have PhD and engineers but you need skilled specialty labor. And those come through apprenticeship programs.
