Six Bangladeshi workers who were sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates three years ago have returned home after paying blood money.

The six were sentenced to death in Dubai after they killed a Pakistani during a quarrel in 2007, said Mainuddin Khan Badal, a Member of Bangladesh Parliament who pursued the case for years. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered the Labour Ministry to pay the entire 9.57 million taka (138,195 dollars) as blood money to the relatives of the Pakistani man in exchange for freedom of our workers," Badal told Reporters.

The Bangladeshi workers' death sentences were commuted to three-year jail term after blood money was paid, Badal said.

The workers returned to Bangladesh last month without any fanfare and with the government making no statement on the issue.

Badal, an influential lawmaker allied to the Government, said this was the first time Bangladesh had paid blood money to secure its workers' release.

Nearly four million Bangladeshis work in countries in the Gulf, mostly as labourers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Why we needed to pay that much of money only to save some murderer..
And what kind of fukcing system is called blood money... :hitwall:

. .
Who was guilty really? What was the cause of quarrel? And why death sentence to six men for murder one man?

Why we needed to pay that much of money only to save some murderer..

Buddy im my opinion u should be happy that ur govt cares for ur ppl and sees to it that they r released somehow.
Nd please dont believe watever those UAE judjes tell..Ur BD ppl might be innocent also ,wrongly implicated in that murder.
please imagine hw much relief and happiness the family of those ppl who were released would be experiencing.

I agree with u completely on this.

As far as i know, Islamically if a person is dead her parents has the right to forgive the Murderer if they want they can demand something in return or set him free without any condition :)

They demanded money and forgiven the murderers meaning freedom to the murderer.

I could be wrong though

There is such system in Pakistan also - but hardly any family agrees to forgive the killing of their son/daughter

In Islam:

In Islamic terms, Qisas (Blood money) can in some cases result in blood money being paid out to the family of victims. The amount varies from country to country and from case to case.

In Japan:

In Japanese culture it is common to give blood money or mimaikin to a victim's family. Such was the case with Lucie Blackman's father who accepted 450,000 pounds as blood money for the murder of his daughter.

In Somalia

In the Somali people's customary law, which they call Xeer (a polycentric legal system developed indigenously), blood money is issued in the event of libel, theft, physical harm, rape and death, as well as to supply assistance to relatives of the injured party.

In shipping:

"Shanghaiing" was the practice of the forced conscription of sailors. Boarding masters, whose job it was to find crews for ships, were paid "by the body," and thus had a strong incentive to place as many seamen on ships as possible. This pay was called blood money.

BTW, since six men killed one man, so (may be, not sure) they were more guilty. Otherwise, why six of them got death penalty?

.
Lol Sheikh Hasina just saved a bunch of murderers to score few political point and waste tax payer's money.

Yes true, it is called Qisas in Arabic

is it not the same case where 18 peoples were ordered death sentance for murdering a shop owner? - I read they were indians but it is possible some of them belonged to Bangladesh?

I could be wrong

WTF???
They were 17 in previous reports and now number shortened to six !!
Why they left them !!!!!!!

So much of sympathy for a criminal !! Is this just because he killed a Pakistani??
What about the feelings of Pakistani family !!! -its pathetic.
I would love to hear your comments if Pakistani government pays Qisas for Ajmal Qasab to Indian families and then he safely flies back to Pakistan.

And if they were innocent then they would have been freed without any Qisas. They paid qisas means they were found guilty.

And Haseena actually did a sinful job for paying qisas which was the liability and punishment of those criminals, she actually help them flee from their punishment. PM helping criminals getting off their punishment. Nothing more than a political stunt.

It doesn't mean that she cares for needy people of BD instead she declared her support for criminals.

She scored none and it was done secretly but the news came out after a month. Public sentiment will be against it for sure.

But if it were mere a quarrel and not a premeditated murder then death sentence to so many people seems little harsh. In Bangladesh it could be 7 years to life term and not death sentence. That could be motivating factor for their release.

If u care so much..then why did the Pakistani mans family accept the money in the first place...?? If they r respectable they should have declined that money and instead asked for the accused to be hanged..? Y they din do so..?

OMG....So u guys accept that Ajmal Kasab is a Pakistani...?
And even if u were to offer blood money for him..we would reject it outright, not even think abt it.:disagree:
nd btw does ur govt has that much money to pay to abt 170 ppl...?

And if they were innocent then they would have been freed without any Qisas. They paid qisas means they were found guilty.

they didn pay any blood money..their govt paid it.The UAE justice system doesnt have that much appeals like a Indian/Pakistani one.
Once ur convicted there is little hope for u..especially if ur a poor bangladeshi who had come in search of job.

Wat sinful job did she do..? Do u know if the BD ppl were given a fair trial..?
It s Sheikh Hasina s job in protecting BD ppl wherever they r nd to me she did a fine job.

p.s.: My stand would have been the same if Zardari had paid some money to save some Pakistanis who were accused of killing a Bd national.
It is a govt s job to protect its citizens wherever they r in the world.

She did it secretely..?!?!?..im sure if Indian politicians were involved they wuld have publicized it to the full extent with banners, cutouts etc...

Public sentiment will be against it for sure.

why..?
