Singh’s positive thinking subdued by internal politics: Qureshi

MULTAN: The Indian leadership, particularly Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, has positive thinking, but progress in the dialogue process is slow because of internal politics and pressure groups, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said on Saturday.

Talking to the media after attending the 10th convocation of the Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), he said dialogue was the only way to settle issues between the two countries.

He said Singh knows the region and its economic requirements. “It is our desire that political forces should support his positive thinking to resolve issues between Pakistan and India,” Qureshi added.

To a question, the minister said Pakistan was taking all possible steps on the water issue with India.

He added that Pakistan had also suggested an Indus Water Treaty-like agreement with Afghanistan during last month’s visit of Afghan President Hamid Karzai to plug chances of any water-related controversy between the two countries.

To another question, he said Saudi Arabia was a brotherly country and Pakistan had no objections, rather would be happy, if Saudi Arabia played a role in resolving issues between Pakistan and India.

Qureshi said the US understands Pakistan will be more focused on tackling terrorism when it has no worries on its eastern border with India, that is why the US desires that Pakistan and India should resume the composite dialogue. app

oh yaar.................last time when Dr.Manmohan talked with gilani.........we all know what Gilani claimed on his return to pakistan.

"We have gained diplomatic victory over India by making India to talk about Balochistan"

Our kind-hearted , non-political Head of Govt. fell in trap of Pakistan.
I dont think Dr.Singh will like Pakistan claim another victory!!!!

And one thing more ..................Talks are going to benefit Pakistan................India want status co. to be like this.............It benefits India

Why can not he become spin doctor of our PM.

Our PM is in majority for last 8 odd years. He the the most powerful man in sub continent. There are no pressure groups only HQ Sonia Gandhi who has no pressure what soever to care about any group cause Congress I is most disciplined Party India has under her leadership.
Our Army establishment has always enacted upon nation's Political whim during all conflicts even when same rejected to utilize advantages our men earned during wars.
Qureshi should watch his mouth and see his own governance controlled by Pakistan army.

So called democratic rule's credibility has been exposed every time when his delegation to friendly nations is accompanied by army policy makers and ISI openly. Who was the last NATO official came here in Pakistan to meet him directly? ..no one.

Minister may be in hurry but GoI has on urgency to solve this issue on his personal merits.

Thanks for telling this to indian political forces???? he means what BJP??....under BJP's rule rapid moves were made to resolve issues but were hampered by Kargil, Parliament attack.....so which other Political force capable enough to influence our PM he is referring to...

So Treaty like Indus water for river Kabul which flows from Afghanistan to Pakistan. Last time it was Pakistan bashing India for IWT now they be able to find an excuse bashing Afghanistan.

Our friendship, cosiness and pure business with Arabia will give Pakistan discomfort for sure. So Minister's underestimation about our friendship to be used for menial mediatory by Arabia is immature and bias.

Yea......since 1971 no worries happened to Pakistan from east but to India in form of insurgencies and infiltrations. USA understands this when preached many times that India is not a threat. Also USA a has told Pakistan every time that she is not interested in Intervening for Kashmir and kashmir is a bilateral issue between both then why Qureshi is making USA understand without USA's consent and ranting here in Pakistan to be fool local 'Janta' via leading news resource of Pakistan every time?????

We are talking for more than 60 years.

Also, its pakistan which has to walk the talk.

BTW, why don't Qureshi mind his own business then making unnecessary comments about India or poking his nose into stuffs other than his domain.

In any democracy, internal politics and pressure groups are common. Not everything is in Singh’s hand. …after all, he is accountable to the Parliament.
