I can ask Mod to give PM for you since you are not Think Tank so we cannot PM each other.

Thanks for the info. I will talk to my family later, actually there is another land to be sold, also large and just in front of big (and new) road. We got land certificate already. Previously we grow rice there. Big business there already give some proposal. There is a new regulation approaching that will allow foreigner buy land here, but not yet signed.

Currently I am busy with my own business though,

well, what can i say? some tribes prefer to stay as they are, it's their choice. but it backs to how the connections works. if you have close connections with the tribe leader things are going your way, way easier. all you need is to take their Gold as a gift (as it is common in Kalimantan)

When you're negotiating with them, you better get on the good side with them, or else its your head on the stake.

.
Malaysia also have same issue, mainly in East Malaysia.
They are kind of hopeless. Education can't change them (well, take too much time, when they realise, the earth already been destroyed).

imo the easiest way is to get close to the tribe leader's daughters. tribe leaders in kalimantan seems to be daughter-oriented. be careful though, getting close to one equals marriage in their culture. you had to spent your life inside the forest of Kalimantan (though you'll be so rich when you managed to get out alive)

that is world-wide problems. we should have force them to learn from modernizations, but that would brand us as human right violator by the west.

Lucky I'm not the one negotiating.

Exactly, most of them want modern amenities such as better medicine and education.

Interesting bro, with Rupiah goes down, so .......My cousin is also a trader in West Sumatra with huge interest in agriculture products.

I have had before some potential partnership with Japanese company, they contacted me, we got conversation through Skype but I dont think the price they propose is good enough so I dont continue.....(service sector)

Its all about respecting their local customs. When I was in the Philippines, one thing that i noticed that Filipinos really like is the 'mano po' gesture, which is when the guest takes the hand of the host and places it to their forehead. It is a sign of deep respect, similar , i suppose to the Confucian concept of Filial Piety. As i notice this practice of 'Mano Po' is practiced between elders and younger peers; family members. Respect the local custom and they will respect you back, and show genuine appreciation.

If I were you, brother, i would recommend your cousin to sell property only when the land prices go high; that way your cousin can avail of the best price for the land. I know one thing that is quite common in Indonesia is the rise of tourist hotels and tourist resorts, these kinds of business prospects can bring in high number of visitors and high profits. Perhaps your cousin can consider not selling his land, rather, develop his land and build a bed and breakfast kind of hotel , and perhaps a tourism business. Indonesia is already experiencing high rate of visitors from Japan, South Korea and now from China, so a tourism business would be perfect for long term prospects. Very high profit based self sustaining business, too.

Its a wise decision that you didn't go with it, bro, always bargain from a position of strength. If i were you, i'd wait until the land value will increase --- don't sell for low.
