Singapore PM to push for bigger Indian role in Asean

Same like India-Mauritius relations as Singapore is Chinese majority country same like Mauritius is Indian majority country.
Most are of Chinese, Malay or Indian descent. There are four official languages: English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil.
5.2 million people live in Singapore.

The English name of Singapore is derived from the Malay word Singapura (Sanskrit: सिंहपुर, lit. Lion City), hence the customary reference to the nation as the Lion City. Many Chinese and Indian immigrants came to Singapore to work in the rubber plantations and tin mines, and their descendents later formed the bulk of Singapore's population.

During the 1950s, Singapore started to face a Communist threat which lasted till the early 1970s. The Communists, mostly supported by the Chinese-speaking group, with strong ties to the trade unions and Chinese schools, carried out an armed struggle against the state, resulting in the Malayan Emergency and later, the Communist Insurgency War. The 1954 National Service Riots, Chinese middle schools riots and Hock Lee bus riots in Singapore were all linked to the Communists

There are also 1,500 companies from China and 1,500 from India.
Singapore is also the second largest foreign investor in India.

In general, bilateral relations with other ASEAN members are strong; however, disagreements have arisen, and relations with neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia have historically been very strained and difficult. Malaysia has often clashed with Singapore over the delivery of fresh water to Singapore, and the Singaporean government has threatened to send troops into Malaysia should the Malaysians break water contracts signed with Singapore and unilaterally cut off the water supply to Singapore. Conflicts have also arisen over the Singapore Armed Forces entering Malaysian airspace, the sovereignty of Pedra Branca, the relocation of Tanjong Pagar railway station, and many other ideological and cultural issues.Border issues exist with both Malaysia and Indonesia, and both have banned the sale of marine sand to Singapore over disputes about Singapore's land reclamation. Some previous disputes have been resolved by the International Court of Justice. Piracy in the Malacca Strait has been a cause of concern for all three countries.

Singapore sees the United States as a counterweight to balance China's rise in the region, and has encouraged more American involvement and presence in the region to maintain peace and security.

How are Singapore - China relations like ?

Anyone who can summarize ?

Ambivalent!

U.s. Needs "counter-strategy" For China's Influence In The Region, Mm Lee Tells Senator Lieberman

Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew discussed
regional stability in the face of China's economic,
political, and military rise with Senator Joseph Lieberman,
joined by the Ambassador, May 30. Lee called on the United
States to develop a "counter-strategy" to respond to China's
growing influence in Southeast Asia. MM Lee suggested
China's military build-up is in part natural but is also
designed to show the United States that China is serious
about Taiwan. However, the Chinese do not want conflict and
are more focused on the economy. Taiwan will grow closer to
China but will want to maintain a separate military and
currency. To manage China, the United States should be
"respectful" and should also try to build bridges to the
younger, more affluent generation. Lee indicated Russia
retains ambitions to reestablish control over the
Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). He reiterated his
view that a withdrawal from Iraq would "throw away all the
influence" the United States has. End Summary.

China-singapore Deepening Of Relations Continues

¶11. (C) Wang's massive delegation to Singapore is being
billed as another indication of the deepening of
Singapore-Sino relations, which several MFA officials told us
last year were already at an all-time high. While the visit
achieved a level of public diplomacy success, the substance
appears limited to the MOU that will allow eight government
officials in each country to participate in masters degree
programs and the MOU on strengthening S&T research.
Singapore already provides training to over 4,000 PRC
officials annually. FM Yeo's statements comparing ethnic
tension in Tibet with Singapore fall in line with Singapore's
pragmatic approach to relations with China, as well as the
GOS' constant public efforts to remind its own citizens that
since race riots broke out in Singapore in the 1960s, the
government must remain vigilant and continue to keep a firm
hand on public order, lest racial tension flare up again.

Singapore Views On The Rise Of China

Strangely, a Chinese perspective (cable from China) isn't present.

Singapore is a mature country in terms of understanding its threats and potential alliances. And it has chosen whom to back as it is evident from here.

Despite a set of their population being Chinese origin, they prefer friendship like a mature independent nation rather than emotions of common ethnicity.

I don't see how the Reds actually attempt to associate themselves with local Singaporeans. Singaporean Chinese are miles different from even Hong Kong folks, let alone the Reds.

.
It seems the singaporean leaders' idea are not like some singaporean members here.
The wise leaderships is one of two reasons help the country become rich [along with a reason British]

A very true Singaporean are not like Chinese/China, only under label "Singaporean" that Chinese migrated to their lands under Singapore Citizen but still DREAM of their homeland. Even though, China and Mainland people does not like to accepting them as a Chinese.
