PML-N President Nawaz Sharif says the differences between the PPP and the MQM appear to be a drama but the factual position will become clear with the installation of a caretaker government in Sindh during the next few weeks.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said it was quite significant that the MQM remained part of the coalition for four years and eleven months and parted ways with its senior partner only a month before dissolution of the assemblies and the formation of an interim setup.
The MQM wants to sit on opposition benches to be able to claim a role in the selection of the caretaker chief minister for Sindh, as enshrined in the amended Constitution, he said.
The PML-N president said the Sindh governor went abroad immediately after the provincial legislature took a decision on restoring the 1979 LB system. The governors move made it possible for the acting governor to sign the bill into law, he argued.
Pakistan, he said, couldnt tolerate hypocrisy and urged the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to stop the politics of hypocrisy in Sindh. He said that the PPP and the MQM had distributed sweets when the new LB system had been approved. Then, he said the PPP again distributed sweets when the same system was annulled and the 1979 system was restored.
Everything will be clear after the installation of a caretaker setup in Sindh, he said of the differences between the estranged coalition partners.
Responding to a question, Mr Sharif said all those desirous of contesting the next elections from the PML-Ns platform were being scrutinised on the touchstone of Articles 62, 63 of the Constitution. He said more than half of the scrutiny would be done through nomination forms while the rest would be carried by the ECP.
He said that Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution must be implemented in the forthcoming elections so that real representatives of the people could reach the parliament.
In response to a question, Mr Sharif said his party was not encouraging anyone to change political loyalty. In fact, he claimed people fed up with the PPP were joining the PML-N of their sweet will.
He told a questioner that the PML-N had confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan in the past and trusted it even at present.
