ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar on Sunday approved to present the Federal Budget 2015-16 to the National Assembly of Pakistan on June 5.

Reliable sources in finance ministry claimed that federal employees are expected to receive an increment of 10 percent in their salaries in the proposed budget document. The increase in salaries is being given according to the inflation rate, the sources added.

However a major share of budget will be allocated to the proposed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project.

Country’s most populated city, Karachi, will also be given a considerable share for the construction of a metro bus route which starts in August this year, the sources disclosed.

The decision was taken during a high level consultancy meeting chaired by the minister. Dar advised the officials to observe the priorities of common man while preparing the Budget.

The economic survey of Pakistan for financial year 2014-15 will be issued on June 4 and special session of Economic Consultancy Council (ECC) has also been convened in this regard.

Karachi needs Metro Rails not buses !

The thing is for a big project like that you need someone to maintain it financially free of corruption / losses and of course for its security. PPP being in Sindh government is deemed unfit for this.

Governor rule should have been imposed by now.

I wonder why Pakistan does not apply to get "World record" for 85 years old young CM still ruling a province. At least that would be an achievement.

Haya sharam k sath gar say bagh chuki, zamana hua, Pakistan ki panchayat tail baichay.

KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to launch a $1.27 billion Karachi Light Rail Brown Line project and expect it to be completed by the beginning of 2018.

A committee has also been constituted to remove all the bottlenecks so that the proposed project can be started on October 1. This was decided at a meeting of Sindh government representatives and the Chinese company Sinosure at CM House on Monday. This meeting was presided over by Sindh Chief Mininster Qaim Ali Shah.

In their presentation, the Chinese team said that the project will start from Singer round-about via Korangi, Shah Faisal Road and Rashid Minhas Road. It will have a terminal station at Anda Morr on the north side of Nagan Chowrangi overpass.

The total length of the Brown Line project is 18.38 kilometres, of which 20.63 per cent or 3.7 kilometres will be underground while 12.92 kilometres will be elevated.

The project will have 13 stations, of which, three will be underground while 10 will be elevated, with one rolling stock base and operational control centres. The team expects the passenger volume to reach 20,000 to 70,0000 persons per one-way trip during peak hours.

This project will be able to generate Rs3 billion annually and can fetch up to Rs3.5 billion a year if advertisement and stalls are set up at each station.

The Sinosure group told the chief minister that 60 per cent of the total cost will be a 13-year Chinese loan while the Sindh government will have to pay 40 per cent of the total cost. The Chinese team said that 11 of their experts have made four trips to Karachi and each trip was of 20 days. During their visit they conducted soil investigation, site surveys, traffic information studies and coordinated with different Sindh government departments.

They told the chief minister that they have formed a 50-member team with 20 design experts and 30 construction experts to prepare a project proposal, conduct a feasibility study, prepare concept and pre-preliminary designs of civil and electrical works, signaling and the preparation of documents for the Chinese loan within two months.

The need of Karachi is underground and overground trains and not a metro bus service.

If we have the underground trains running, millions of people would be benefitted from the project and will reduce congestion from the roads. Then we can start organised buses on the same roads or introduce dedicated bus lanes at congested areas of Karachi.

Having a dedicated metro bus might be useful for short term goal but the real need for people of Karachi will only suffice with Underground, Overground or elevated rail services.

Underground trains in Karachi, I don't think so would be a feasible idea. Reason being the underground water level in that city and poor flood drainage system of that city...............................

metro bus is quite succesful in Lahore , it is mass transit which is available after every one minute , while it covers teh distance of 33 kms in just 45 mins as it is signal free dedicated route .
