KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Q leader and Chairman Senate’s Standing Committee on Defence Mushahid Hussain Syed has said that silence of government and the army that broke after 48 hours following the killing of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in Pakistan damaged country’s image, Geo News reported on Thursday.

Speaking at a seminar at the IDEAS 2012 Exhibition, he said that the army should open its door to provide necessary information to the media.

He was of the view that army’s unwillingness to share information would stir speculations “Media is free and knows well, how to carry out accountability,” he said and added that improving army-media relations was need of the hour. The Senator said informing people about defence issues was also necessary.

Syed announced that the defence committee would soon arrange a workshop in collaboration with the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) to fill the communication gap between the army and the media.

Silence over Osama killing dented Pakistan

It is the fault of the government and more so leaders in power AKA Gutless Yousuf Raza Gilani.

.
Now wait 4 more years + and wait for the "REAL INVESTIGATION REPORT on Osama Staged drama".

. .
He is right.

The OBL incident has shown Pak very very poorly. It silence has made it worse.

Pakistan army has a very archaic bureaucratic structure. Modern warfare is less on battlefiled and more in the airwaves. Look at the US and NATO. They have lost the war but do they give out that impression in public?

Public perception is everything these days and media is something that Army must use to project its positive image. Pakistan army is well respected and is a credible institution. It it chooses to sulk, like its few public statement reveals, it will lose its image gradually.

Pakistan needs a strong regulatory authority for media at the same time. I dont like Pakistan media so free that there is vested or foreign influence in it. Its so free it talks against Pakistan ideology!!

You have some conspiracy theories to put forward I assume? Those are best suited for bharat rakshak or redneck American forums.

Yeah.. Only conspiracy theories allowed here are the ones about false flag 9/11 & 26/11 or fake Osama operation.. Right ?? ;)

.
How its their fault they didn't even know that OBL is alive.

How very convenient. The costliest manhunt in your neighborhood has happened searching for this one man when the entire region is alert, and you don't even know he's hidden inside your territory?

Puhleeese, you can use this excuse against Indian Congress. Not the US.

.
The great deception of the Pakistani people is evident as even now some Pakistani posters tend to believe that Mumbai attacks was staged by RAW-CIA-MOSSAD and Osama killing was a staged drama.

If Pakistan had given up Osama when they had the chance things would be less gloomier for Pakistan.

And you have some conspiracy theories to put forward too, I assume? Again, bharat rakshak or right wing American forums is the way to go.

US government has already accepted that Pakistan was unaware btw - it's their official stance. So much for that.

I fail to understand the strategic value of keeping Osama and why is point of view projected that in some ways Pakistan wanted to protect Osama? It would not have been beneficial either way!

believe me or not, pakistan is being embarrassed in every manner possible, even its stance on drone policy, the foreigners see pakistan as a an american puppet state.

or army and government both are american puppets
