Sikorsky Offers Billions in Benefits to Win Turk Helo Deal

ANKARA - U.S. helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft, in competition with an Italian-British rival for a $4 billion Turkish contract for utility helicopters, announced Oct. 5 that it plans to offer Ankara a major benefits plan if the company wins the contest.

The Turkish utility helicopter program calls for the joint production of 109 platforms, 94 of which will go to the Turkish military.

Sikorsky is offering the T-70, a Turkish version of the S-70 Black Hawk International. In competition, AgustaWestland is offering its TUHP 149, a new generation, multirole helicopter designed for the Turkish requirement.

"Our plan is fourfold," said Steve Estill, vice president for strategic partnerships at the Sikorsky president's office. "If Turkey selects us for the 109 helicopter program, we will buy another 109 to be manufactured in Turkey, and export them to third countries."

Sikorsky also is proposing to buy $1.3 billion worth of Turkish-made helicopter parts, set up a regional Black Hawk support base in Turkey and invest in a future Turkish project to build a light utility helicopter.
