considering that NPT was formed immediately after india's nuclear device test specifically for putting a stop to india's nuclear ambitions, we can't sign. We came a long way after 1974.

Signing NPT and CTBT not happening until we can master a bigger force of nature.

Why should India sign the NPT? Signing it would force India to forswear its nuclear option. Acceding to NPT means accepting the three basic principles represented by it:
> Non-proliferation
> Disarmament
> The right to only peaceful usees of nuclear technology.

Therefore, can a country, placed as India is, with a 'hostile' neighborhood sign the NPT, more so when the very foundations of the treaty are being shaken thoroughly?

Two main objections are:

> NPT creates a club of "nuclear haves" and a larger group of "nuclear have-nots" by restricting the legal possession of nuclear weapons to those states that tested them before 1967. But the treaty never explains on what ethical grounds such a distinction is valid.

> More importantly, while China is recognized as a nuclear ‘have’, India cannot remain a nuclear ‘have not’!!

So, Japan asking India to sign the NPT doesn't stand to reason.

India can definitely sign NPT as a nuclear weapon state! They like it or not, They believe it or not! India is the de-facto sixth nuclear power! We have civil nuclear deal with Russia, France and couple of more countries!

Australia had considered exporting uranium to India! Hope France will consider exporting enrichment technologies once MMRCA is signed!

I though the NPT was optional anyway........... what right does anyone have to tell someone that they should be a signatory to one thing or another that some or most of the world agrees to but you dont, clearly if you do not wish to be a part of it then you will not have to and in exchange you go about your business without the carrots they offer as fair business
