Well, though I will say about the hadees that their texts should be accepted only after being put to the test of reason, rationality and context I agree with the rest of your post. Firstly, the first university in the world was started by a female Muslim in Fez, a city in current Morocco :
But look at the Taliban 1100 years later, the governors of the "Islamic" Emirate of Afghanistan who are denying education to females. Oh how distorted have we become.
Second, you are correct, most of the "education" in at least the Capitalist world is meant not for thinking independent but just to become another cog in the wheel of the Capitalist dog-eat-dog ecosystem. For example, what is the need for the entire London School of Economics when that all that that college does is produce graduates who go out into the world to perpetuate the anti-human Capitalist system ? Does LSE teach simple steps on how to achieve a welfare-based society ? There surely must be many LSE graduates in India, Pakistan and USA but have they solved the socio-economic, social and political problems in these societies ? Problems that affect citizens every day ? And look at the 2+ million computer engineers and PhDs who have come out of Indian colleges in the last 20 years, have they ever devised a single local innovative microprocessor, operating system and memory or storage system ? So what is the purpose of such education ?
It depends on whom is reading the Hadith, when jahils read Quran and Hadith, they understand it from their narrow point of view. The real Ulema are always reading Quran and Hadith, they become old but still say we haven't learnt anything yet. Quran and Hadith is full of knowledge and wisdom, it makes a person full of love and light. This makes the person strong, his family strong and his community strong, the conclusion is a strong nation is built. Then Islam talks about social and welfare.
The Capitalist control the population through media and education. They give the basic to everybody but the rich keep trillions in their banks. You can have communism, Capitalism, socialism or whatever, when the heart of man is corrupt then everything is corrupt.
The Ottomans taught Medicine, History, Art, methodology, astronomy, geometry and calculus etc. These days mullahs haven't got a clue because they never heard of these subjects, and this is because their education level is low. The modern school system is the Maddrassa system, all they need is to add subjects on Quran, Hadith, Tafsir, Hafiz. Then have one special Maddrassa/Uni where children could learn to become experts, the same way medical professionals continue to study after University. In Pakistan I know many young people who failed in school and didn't want to learn, so their parents sent them to Maddrassa, now they are qualified molvi but mentally they are still slow and lazy, imagine the fatwas lol.
Books, syllabuses, ijazah: A look into the educational system in Ottoman madrassas
Did you know what Ottoman madrassas taught their students? Or what kinds of books the students studied at their desks? Which subjects were emphasized in...
