Should PIA be?

Govt is working on three options for PIA.
1. Revamp
2. Sell some shares
3. shut down

In my opinion all three are unworkable. Shutdown is not an option when other private airlines are operating successfully. Selling shares would be no good as that money will also get sucked up. Revamping is not possible in presence of present trade unions and political interference.

This is a catch 22 situation. Whats your take on it?

Give additional federal subsidies. PIA is a critical company in a critical industry, has to be improved. Also privatize x percent of it.

and BTW GOV is not here to run an airline or stell mill or a telecom company. they are white elephants in civilian gov time always . i wish gov sold them to companies and get rid of them they are hell corrupt you can't imagine how much corrupt. many countries PIA have no flights still paying millions daily on staff offices salaries allowances to corrupt workers.they are mafia looters man. i wish pak gov sold these 5 white elephants ASAP. we can save yearly some billions$ if we have no railway - pia-steel mils etc

Just to give some stats. PIA has 38 aircraft 21 serviceable around 280 captains and same number of first officers. Shaheen has 21 aircraft and approximately 40 captains and same number first officers. This means by revamping PIA and as @Imran Khan said fire 10000. I would say fire more. They are parasites on our tax money. No need to privatize it but run it as any private company. Instead of putting politically motivated board of directors take people who are employed as MD in private company, not in their own company. Go for objective based management and i can assure it would not take more than 2 months for this airline to turn around. It will also help in reducing overall airline fares in for domestic travel. Only thing needed is fires Ghunda Anasir from PIA.

I'm sure we've all seen this video of the Monkey holding and firing soldier's AK-47.

Send him to a firing range and test him. A sane person wouldn't say that the gun gun is inaccurate and unreliable, he would ask to take the gun away from the monkey's hands for safe and proper functioning.

Take away the political influence from PIA, fire the useless staff who've been sitting at homes for years and getting paid from the sweat of a hardworking labor in some part of Pakistan.

Do we know AZ's decision to reinstate staff, laid off 15 years back gave PIA a jolt of 4 billion. I am sure more that 70% went into someones pocket. People came to work for one day took benefits and again went home. We give guard of honour to such people in this country. He should have been given something else. Now NS will also play similar stunts.

a) Government needs to end allowing non Pakistani carriers to operate local destinations.
b) Buy 20 planes for better customer service , that are more fuel saving and save money

Reduce man power by 30%

c) Improve customer service

well they should bring down man power from 450 per aircraft to 200-220

it can still go in profit with the current sales, only the expenditure needs to be halved

and last but not the least, give quality service, their meals should be revamped, service their aircraft

Disallowing other careers is not the right option. In olden days it was mandatory for pakistani nationals to use PIA for their first trip abroad for the year. But it had to end and has ended. What we have in pia is result of such monopoly. Yes being a national carrier itshould get priorities like any other country give to their national carrier.

its easy fire all those that were hired in last 5 years
fire all those who are at 50 years and give them golden hand shake
increase planes by leasing and then privitze 25% share
