Should Pakistan Tell America to Keep Its Aid?

What aid are we talking here?

I have never seen a single project build by aid!

Please, don't consider IMF loan as aid, because that is loan.... a business for the rich people.

I have never seen a single project in Pakistan build by US aid money!

You will see them if you just open your eyes for eg.

Recently two projects your US aid got you got blown up by TTP at Mehran base.

This is what I referred to as eloquent BS by someone sitting comfortably in his lounge in California. I stand by this mainly because:

1. For all your so called lounge proposals - you need a lot of $$$ .. and in case you forgot money doesn't grow on trees. Your wishlist looks great on paper but thats about it. In practical terms - how can you implement either of the 4 points when law and order situation is so bad??

2. Secondly, you are quoting IK and ghairat brigade for voicing empty rhetoric ..isn't that what you have done through this article? If not, please enlighten us on how you can make an iota of difference in practical terms? Talk is cheap!

3. Since talk of ghairat is in your article - tell me something - what are your views on people holding dual nationalities? some party leaders (Altaf) who run their parties on remote control? It would be really useful if people like you could highlight these 'bhagors' from your lounge .. this would be a great service instead of hollow lectures .

At this juncture, its about survival in our country and the last thing the country needs is pseudo-analysts like yourself. We have plenty on television. As I said earlier, you don't even refer yourself as Pakistani.

And truth is bitter

Yes, the money doesn't grow on trees; it has to be earned. And unless Pakistanis like you understand it and pay your fair share of taxes, it'll be hard to wean Pakistan off of foreign aid.

As to your derogatory nonsense about dual nationality of Pakistanis overseas, don't forget that the $10 billion and growing remittances by Pakistani diaspora are keep the Pakistani economy afloat! Otherwise you'd be out with a much bigger bowl to beg for a lot more, and have even less dignity! Yes, the truth is bitter.

Haq's Musings: Pakistani Diaspora is the World's 7th Largest

If anybody has to tell America to stop the aid, it has to be the Pakistani Army.

But the Jarnails apparently love the greenback and the weapons that American aid brings.

Rest is all is a mere hogwash.

haha .. wild allegations .. do you know that I don't pay my taxes? Let me give you a tip .. as an analyst . you shouldn't get emotional... as when you are emotional there is a tendency to say things that you will regret later... I think dual nationals like you should be taxed too .. because there have been cases where people like yourself (holding dual nationalities) steal money from MY country and start businesses in other parts of the world ...

You speak as if you are the sole contributor of $10 Bn.. The people REMIT money .. its not aid or donation dude ... you are really a pseudo-analyst nothing more.

You are yet to disprove my words about you throwing out empty rhetoric like the ghairat brigade that you referred to. As I said talk is cheap - so why don't you keep your talk to yourself. I consider posting of such articles by foreign nationals (like you) as spam on this forum. I have tried to ignore you .. but you are like that persistent pain in - the you know where - .. that keeps coming back ...

Atleast answer the simple question - on what has been your or your families contribution to Pakistan? Be specific ..

Secondly, do you have any business in Pakistan?

When was the last time were you in Pakistan? (for how long)

When you travel to Pakistan do you flaunt your blue passport?

I know your pain .. you are far away from Pakistan .. and you see the suffering of my countrymen and you think by writing a few useless articles you will become equivalent to a great philosopher .. Please .. save it!

America's 'aid' ($500 million per year) is quite frankly 'chump change', & is quite a hindrance. I think the Pakistani establishment have understood this as well.

.
yes.. Pakistan should tell US to take their money and shove it up their.. where the sun doesn't shine.
Also, Pakistan should return with interest all the aid it has received from US and its allies since 1947. May be its all weather taller than Himalayas, deeper than Arabian sea friend can help it.

.
not only this but kick out every US citizen agents trainers spies too close this bloody counslates and live in peace .can we damn destroy our peace just for bloody 1bn$ yearly .US is acting like these penny AID they buy us .tell me please politicians have no shame at all when they ask or take aid?

Let's get out facts straight!

What China has done for Pakistan is important but it is miniscule when compared with the US assistance to Pakistan in the last 64 years.

This really proves what I have been saying - your oath to US .. doesn't really allow you the flexibility of honesty. You are comparing China's support to Pakistan and you say that Chinese support has been little vs US assistance. I have a few problems with this statement:

1. Firstly - this is no achievement that we have gotten a lot of loan from US vs China.
2. Without China we wouldn't be having our nuclear weapons - the same weapons that your country (US) has put sanctions on us and is violently against. Come on disprove this ?
3. In each case US has done this in her own interest - it is not for the love of Pakistani people. If this was for the love of Pakistani people they wouldn't continue to slaughter Pakistanis through drone attacks - can you really objectively prove that militants are being killed? Do me a favor - don't quote a drawing room analyst like yourself ok?
4. Do you know how much of loan waivers/debt write off's US has given to Egypt / Mexico?

Without massive US aid to bring about a Green Revolution in South Asia in 1960s, tens of millions of Pakistanis and hundreds of millions of Indians would have starved to death.

Wow .. you are really a piece of work aren't you. So, while they didn't starve to death - Americans have now taken upon them to kill them? What about Iraqis? What about Afghans ? What about Pakistanis being killed? But according to your fickle mind - we should just let this continue because .. oh they gave us $$ .. Amazing .. your American masters must be really proud of you.

As mightily as Pakistan has suffered at the hands of the Taliban and al Qaeda terrorists and their affiliates since 911, I do believe that Pakistanis would have been much worse off if Musharraf had not sided with the United States when asked after the worst terror attacks on US mainland.

This is just an assumption - facts are that thanks to Mushy's role .. we had Lal Masjid, CJ was put away, constitution was trampled and suicide bombings increased + you do know that mushy was supportive of US attacking Pak via drones and hot pursuit? So, I don't agree .. without Mushy's support to US .. we would have been much better ..and we don't need a pseudo-analyst to tell us this .

As the only nation in the history of the world to have used nuclear weapons against civilian targets, I have to agree with Stratfor's George Friedman's characterization of America as "barbaric", particularly when it feels threatened by any external force. I believe the United States would not have hesitated one bit in using all of its political, economic and military might against nuclear-armed Pakistan had Musharraf's decision been any different.

Haq's Musings: What if Musharraf Had Said No to US After 911?

So, you think we Pakistanis would have just kept quiet? Great loser mindset we have. If Americans had to use nukes .. they would have used it against iranians .. Koreans .. heck . they did not even do that with Vietnamese .. and lost the war there .. so I know your American Masters must be happy reading your posts but I didn't expect you to stoop so low ..

Shame on you.

.
Pakistan's response to America should be :

Take this aid and shove it " where the sun does not shine ".

.
Or alternately it could help transform the aid into trade - we want full and deep trade relations with the US and avoid ALL security related relations including getting arms, free or otherwise.

Yes, that New America Foundation report & video was a real eye-opener. It is imperative that Pakistan converts aid to trade, & has good relations with the US, besides having a military relationship.

Shame on you.

Vietnamese had the Soviet and Chinese backing during the Cold War, and they were still decimated by the war. It's taking a long time for them to rebuild.

Iranians have an exportable commodity that earns them lots of petrodollars, and they are getting increasingly isolated.

North Korea is a basket case, isolated and starving its people.

I do not think Pakistan should copy their examples.

There is a saying in Texas: Big hat, no cattle. I think you and the rest of the "ghairat brigade" fit that description well.

I'm glad that your kind are not making policy in Pakistan.

Haq's Musings: What if Musharraf Had Said No to US After 911?

Why are you obsessed with India.

.
Nonsense!

To put it perspective, here's an excerpt from a 1992 paper Foreign Aid and India:
Financing the Leviathan State by Shyam J. Kamath:

India has received more foreign aid than any other developing nation since the end of World War II--estimated at almost $55 billion since the beginning of its First Five-Year Plan in 1951

Beyond that, India was the fourth largest recipient of aid (ODA) between 1995 to 2008 (US$26.1 billion).

After the increase of British aid to $500 million (300 million pounds) a year, India will still remain the biggest recipient of Japan's official development assistance (ODA) in the near future. Since Japan's first ODA to India in 1958, the country has received monetary aid worth Rs 89,500 crore (Rs 895 billion) so far, according to Noro Motoyoshi, Japanese consul general in Kolkata. In 2008, Japan's ODA to India was up by more than 18% compared to 2007 at Rs 6916 crore (Rs 69.16 billion).

The World Bank said recently it will lend India $14 billion in soft loans by 2012 to help the country overhaul its creaking infrastructure and increase living standards in its poor states, according to Financial Express.

At the recent G20 meeting, India has asked the World Bank to raise the amount of money India can borrow as soft loans, generally considered aid, from the bank for its infrastructure projects, according to Times of India. At present, India can borrow up to $15.5 billion in soft loans as per the SBL (single borrower limit)in soft loans fixed by the Bank.

The Indian government has estimated it needs $500 billion over the five years to 2012 to upgrade infrastructure such as roads, ports, power and railways.

India would get ZERO direct or indirect aid if the US did not agree, given the extraordinary power the US has over its allies like the UK and Japan and the IFIs like IMF and WB.

Haq's Musings: Foreign Aid Continues to Pour in Resurgent India

Read it is loan not ALMA.
Do you forget the countless trips Zardari made to world bank and IMF door steps with famous bowl.
Now IMF and world bank saying get lost, Pakistan saying we don't need IMF loan.

America threatened to cut AID so pakistan is rejecting it.

Is it not funny??

More BS from you!

First: SOFT LOANS are easy loans with low interest rates and long repayment periods given to poor nations of the world like India by the World Bank and OECD countries. These are all considered ODA...official development assistance.

Second: You have a serious comprehension problem if you think I am advocating rejecting foreign aid when countries like "Shining India" are willingly accepting such aid in billions of dollars from whoever offers it to them...like the Brits, the Japanese, the Gates Foundation, etc etc.
