Should India arm Vietnam & Philippines?

I have no problems that India sells or gives arms to Vietnam and the Philippines. They are all sovereign nations and in my view they can do what they want in their bilaterale relations. I'm confident that China's defence industry is able to cope with whatever India can supply them both in terms of quantity and quality.

.
before talking about SHOULD or NOT,it is necessary to make sure if india is has the ability to arm the two small countries. it is difficault for a country which cann't survive without foreign weapons to arm other countries.

isnt it common sense that india buyz from other nations coz its requirements are high. vietnam and phillipines can anyday do good defence with indian ToT licenced amunition. ToT does allow sale to further parties.

and who told u that to sell u need to be patented manufacture?

Strangely, the USA is the one providing billions of dollars of military aid to Pakistan every year, NOT China.

So the USA is allowed to give more military aid to Pakistan than the rest of the world combined, but India only cares about China even though we do not give military aid? :P
US might given pak billions in military aid. But it was China that proliferated nukes to pak. It was China that proliferated missile tech to pak. It was China that tipped off pak about joint Indo-Israeli attack on kahuta. It is China that positioned her soldiers in pak admn kashmir just to name a few. Now tell..is India's wariness of China not reasonable?

How much (in $US) did India export in arms in the past few years? No offense, but nobody is lining up to buy your defense related maal. The Americans would be more likely to secure contracts in those nations with which China is flexing her muscles. If I were you, I'd just stick with your so called non alignment
Satellites and such - sure. And in fact it could be a somewhat lucrative possibility if you manage to pull it off; even of symbolically
One has to start somewhere. We have to find various common fields for increasing ties. Private sector can provide them as they are contesting for few domestic tenders. TATA and Mahindra are coming with new products. Only way to build credibility is to sell it to some nation. Many foreign companies are making joint ventures with Indian companies and for those companies these are good markets.

Ecuador have Dhruv Helicopters. We can sell that too. FGFA may be sold too. its Fifth gen and by the time we complete our requirements, there will be many nations to induct Fifth Gen. plane especially a booming economy like Indonesia.

See, to establish name, you have to sell to few countries even if its small tender. You can't compare India with US, Russia and China.

Its not just about quality and quantity. it is also about trust factor. In case of Vietnam, trust comes into picture.

Including rifles and bullets?so you mean Filipino and vietnam prefer garbages to high requirements?

I think Vietnam will go for Russian weapon....
As to Indian weapon, maybe in the future definitely not now. Actually Pakistan prefer western weapon than Chinese one, but the relationship with West is in bottom of the valley while economy condition is not optimistic a he moment. If china stop selling weapon to Pakistan, there will be other countries selling to them as well. In order to
Contain China , USA sacrifice the national security of Pakistan by arming India. China just help Pakistan to sustain the least defense capability, what's to blame here? You can't discard old friend to please a new friend. As long as Pakistan asking help from China, there is no reason we shall say no just because India is not happy about it:
You will never say no to your friends.
If India wanna sell weapon to Vietnam , I will not say any dissent about it.

well, an american would say the same bout chinese ammunition. :D

u see, its relative. vietnam n filipinos use arms which are below standard than that of india. so for a change, if we can get them at a good price, indian deal will be a better one.

i think u have got a habit of thinking monotonously unidirectional. :)

Its not just about quality and quantity. it is also about trust factor. In case of Vietnam, trust comes into picture.

In 2010 India doesn't come in to the top 14 nations of arms exporters meaning that India sold less arms than the 95 million $ of South Korea. China has become a net arms exporter since 2009.

Arms industry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Well, Indonesia may or may not buy the FGFA. Wasn't Indonesia cooperating with South Korea to build their own stealth fighter in the KF-X project ?

If you want to talk about trust then its clear that India's neighbours Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan trust China more than India. Smaller nations seeking to hedge against their bigger neighbours is nothing new.

^ Then what's the problem ?

Point is US weapons comes with many strings attached. Russians may delay the supply and always there is problem wrt spares. Every country has pros and cons.

Vietnam knows that India will be more inclined towards it.

Chinese exports didn't start with billions of dollars sale in first year. We have to give support to Private companies as it gives boost to technological development and R&D.

DCNS is working with Pipavav in Gujrat. Just one example. Many such cases with other companies.

Other nations provide ample market to these joint ventures and since India is also a stake holder in it, trust factor increases.

Kindly see all aspects of the system. Look at case of Israel.

You have to invest for coming years and think decades ahead.

Unless India sell Nuke to Vietnam, it pose little threat to China as a whole. Will you ?

.
when China can gift nuke to Pakistan this gives enough reason to India for putting up nuclear tipped missiles in Vietnam and Philippines . Show aggressive behavior in diplomacy

India will never sell Nukes. The non-proliferation record was the major reason that US,Australia etc convinced the opposition parties of their country.

If we do it, forget supply of nuclear fuel, we will get sanctions.

India has to maintain its image.

Better say Quid Pro Quo. As trade and relation gets better between India and China and we supply their neighbors, we can make under the table deal of not offering few advanced systems to neighbors of each other like Spy Satellites.

in that case Pakistan will be left with no nuclear weapon :P

Nope. They already have it. Nothing can happen now. :D
Lets be practical. Our aim regarding China should be reducing their tilt towards Pakistan and increase bilateral trade with reducing trade deficit. Also, access to their knowledge base too. Both nations offer each other billion of strength market.

People say they can't trust China, well we can trust China more than US, any given day if we keep up the pace of normalization of relationship. This is what US don't want. A Russia-China-India block.

If you don't know India has voted against US even more than Cuba in UN back in 2010. US don't want India in UNSC because it may make SC balanced. Since US-UK-France are in one block and Russia-China are in other.
