Should India and Bangladesh form a security alliance?

Well thats the key point , why would it deteriorate? I dont think India will allow any foreign troop movement on its soil or water. Thats not even fiction. India wont even allow russia or US for that matter of fact. India is a power on its own which can say no , unlike pakistan which capitulated on afghanistan.

Which country do you think bangladesh might get into war (other than India & myanmar)? Even during heights of khaleda's ant-India govt when BD was providing arms & safe havens to terrorist groups India did not attack bangladesh.

There will be strings in security alliance like for India & USA. But not for India & BD , it will be like US & Canada. Any damage to one of them , will impact other. Each side will be vary of that and not allow things to go out of control. The only question , is the subcontinent ready for that?

US & Canada are smart countries the relationship between them is bereft of pettiness that is typical to subcontinent. By having such an arrangement they are actually saving ton of money and also better economic benefits to its citizen.
I disagree with that point...Imagine Canada buying most of its weapons from Russia...Imagine Canada being the second largest defence customer of Russia....well thats what Bangladesh is when it comes to India and China...Canada buys most of its weapons from the US or most of its manufacturing partnerships are with American companies...in our case we buy not even a bullet from India...and Bangladesh is China's second largest defence customer...you think that wouldn't be a problem for India?

.
Can we talk about this after both countries have gotten past 10,000 per capita GDP?

Thanks.
Even if both countries surpassed 10k per capita and became 100% atheist(so that the hindu muslim issue wouldn't be a problem)..we cannot rule out China's influence here...China will become a superpower and will reign as a a superpower for a considerable amount of time before India catches up...Bangladesh cannot afford to be in its black-book for that time.

.
Look it depends on what you define as strings, normal economic issues are also/always present btw US & Canada. But maturity to address them without resorting to pettiness is what differentiates between us & them. BD need not provide manpower or equipment , just staying neutral and not hosting anti -india elements or activities is good enuf.

There is no 'us'. Hindus will have no issues with an alliance as just demonstrated by the earlier poster who spoke of such an alliance.

There is no point in discussing 'maturity' when you bring islam into the picture. As I mentioned earlier islam triumphs common sense every time.

If BD has to stay neutral, an alliance is not needed. They just have to sign an non aggression pact.

There is a possibility of them staying neutral in the future, but not so much for supporting India in any kind of alliance unless their existence is in danger.

I'm not disputing that (though we will have to see how China's growth trajectory holds up in the coming decades)....but what I'm saying is its a silly thing to even bring it up at this point of time in the regions development.

There is literally shit to protect through a mutual defense treaty or security framework (overt)....just do it covertly like is already being done and there is no dramabaaz and we can focus on much more important things.

Well that begs the question why would Canada need weapons in first place when it is under US nuke umbrella? Any attack on canada will be considered attack on US. Who will attack Canada? You can also imagine that satan will attack , but will that happen? Canada maintains an army for notional intention to complete the purpose of being a Nation.

As I said earlier , BD can buy whatever it wants & from whomever. But if it does not indulge in anti-india activities , India would not care about it. Problem is not BD buying weapons but apprehension it might lead to hosting foreign forces like in case of Sri lanka where they allowed chinese subs to squat in Indian waters. Even if BD has nukes it makes no difference but threat of using it against India is what will get India into action. Its the intention that matters. Most of the countries go for better safe than sorry option bcos lack of trust.

yup, that alone will help. Non aggression pact will serve BD very well. But when was the last time India attacked BD?

.
Even after 20 years any alliance with them will be on a slippery slope.

Look at the uneasy relationship between US/NATO and Turkey. ........ in the end 'islam' will always triumph. That is the nature of the beast. Its pointless to defy nature.
Keep Islam out of your tedious fancies

Non aggression pact will also prevent BD from supporting anyone else against India as well. E.g. SL has signed pact with India not to allow chinese naval ships to replenish in SL.

Keep Islam out of your tedious fancies

That is exactly my point. I would like nothing better.

Honestly Bangladesh is politically too volatile and unstable to be trusted from India's perspective...It has a healthy chance of flip flopping from India to China if the people for some reason view any of India's actions as a major threat(even "simple" things like the farakka dam or rampal or even killing a girl at the border can get people riled up to the point of a mass uprise provided someone is someone is politically smart enough to stoke the fire) it has a unhealthy history of populist coups...and BD suddenly deciding to host nuclear armed submarines from China cannot be ruled out in the foreseeable future...although I doubt it would ever become mad enough to defy all international treaties and start acquiring nukes.

. . .
LOL.....a deal with the devil. Why would we sign anything thats clearly against our national interests?

Our main trading partner is China
Our biggest defence supplier is China
Our key development partner is China

LOL.....we should concentrate on building our economy, and hence adding to our ability to increase our defence spending.

.
Bangladesh and India should form a security alliance in which India will commit to provide security to Bangladesh from all external threats. And in return Bangladesh should give 95% of the money it spends on military and weapons annually to evil baniya India as protection money or hafta. :partay:

One more thing payment should be made preferably in Indian rupees or dollar...no taka vaka :p:

yup, thats the problem. The issue arises from the fact that the political class does not represent the common man on the ground who wants peace. Every so called democracy is represented by 1% of the population who dont care about commoners. This political class to be relevant will always be paranoid about being seen to be failure or indulge in vain rhetorics to preserve their power.

Unless there is a democracy which represents common man on ground whose lives are enmeshed across the ppl on the other side by good economic & social cause things will never remain stable. Once that happens national boundaries will become notional and peace will prevail like in europe.

.
A security alliance with China or America makes sense but with India? The most unreliable, untrustworthy, interfering country imaginable.

.
External threat to BD only means threat from Burma.......

No way we will defend BD from our Brothers Burma....

BDians save your own *** don't bring that bowl again & again to India..........1971 was the first & last.....!!
