Are you Joking? You funny clown, TSing Hua university and Beijing University are both superb university. In Thames and Qs this year they are all in 100 list, and Tsinghua is even in 50. I don't even have to mention you how hellish the Indian universities perform on these ranks.

I was comparing Tsinghua and Beida with MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Yale, which they don't come close to.

And I did say that they don't enter top 50 in China's own ranking systems.

When did I ever say that Beida and Tsinghua are not in top 50 of EVERY rankings? I referred exactly to the Shanghai Jiatong University rankings list.
Also, even in these QS rankings they are not befitting of being China's premier institutions don't you think? Even Singapore has a higher ranked University.

The biggest point here is that the rankings are only marginally increasing for these Universities.

I'll go to Queensland for two years late this year, all funded by government. What's wrong? If I am good enough, I should go to Tsinghua, but not, my paper is not good enough. It's so easy to apply for those so called top100 university in the west...

The difference between China and some only Supa Powa is thousands of renowned talents are going home, as in many projects like Thousand Talents. In Wuhan, we have free apartments and tax reduction for oversea Chinese experts, here no discrimination towards Asian, no promotion barrier for Asian, and better transportation and lower prices, making the city the first in Central China over 1-trillion-yuan of GDP.

What are you going to study?

Also, even in India "many" people do turn back home in search of opportunities. I have a gut feeling that it will be less than China, but only stats can really do justice to this assertion.

I agree though that Indian universities perform worse.

One of the major criteria for those university ranking is its gratuate faculty composition. More noble literates there are higher the points towards those ranking. While univerisity research programs can hire those talents to work for them, teaching will be a whole different ball game because of the language barrier. China has THE best MBA/EMBA school, its program is ranked #1 in Asia and among the top in the world, that is because CEIBS can hire any professors and lecturers without the concern of language because most its classes are given in English and students are required to be proficient in taking classes in English.

While I'm sure Stat majors are used by many companies for data mining; I used to work for one of the largest data mining companies in the country. I don't remember any stat majors.

I do remember a Harvard Astronomy major though.

It's a mix of i/0 psych, psychometrics , economics nowadays.

If you PhDs on these and go into analysis positions .... It's easy to start in the low 100s.

I should know. lol.
