For last many days many trolls were posting about poverty, India not shining, poor people in India etc. etc.

So I just want to educate these people who are concern or having stomach ache about poverty and poor in India.

There is hug shortage of labors in India and that is not related to any particular region but whole of India (North, East, West or South).

Following are the some links from media to prove the point:

MNREGS has led to labour shortage, higher wages

In other words, in just three years, the programme has come a long way. Indeed, while there are no all-India figures, there are enough reports of a shortage of labour for agriculture in several key states in the harvesting season.

This, in turn, has led to wage rates in the country going up. In other words, what various minimum-wage statutes and the large bureaucracy that mans them haven't been able to achieve, the MNREGS has achieved in a relatively short period of time.
The success of the scheme, however, is also its main weakness. What was started as a social security scheme to provide employment in times of need has now morphed into a full-fledged employment programme that is in danger of supplanting the labour market it was meant to supplement.

Labour shortage hits Punjab paddy growers

“We have abundant land in our villages for packaging of our agri produce but cannot find the labour required for it.

Labour shortage in the fields drives farmers to tractors

The president of auto and tractor maker Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd offers an interesting explanation to this puzzle: growing labour shortages in rural India are encouraging farmers to mechanize operations. “The traditional model of predicting growth in the tractor market was only linked to the monsoon and didn’t factor in labour shortages,” says Goenka.

Shortage of labour affecting Surat diamond industry profits

"The labour that came into the cutting and polishing jobs of the Surat diamond industry 20-25 years ago, that generation is moving towards retirement. And the new generation that should come in this industry doesn't have much interest in the cutting and polishing," said Ajoy Bhattacharya, the Southern Chamber of Gujarat and Commerce
Industry president.

"The kids of these people, have completed their studies with graduation and post graduation or MBA and they want to go for some white-collar job and they don't want to come into cutting and polishing. So, where would you get new labour? When these huge numbers of people will retire then where would you get the new labour?" he added.

Labour shortage hits jute mills in West Bengal

After sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh, it’s now the turn of jute mills in West Bengal to reel under shortage of labour. This has forced many jute mills to reduce their production hours and go for production cuts.

The 52 working jute mills in West Bengal employ around 400,000 workers and the labour shortfall is about 30 per cent.

“The workers are more interested in getting engaged in different government schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and other alternative sources of income like employment in real estate and security services. Workers do not even bother losing jobs if a mill closes down. Some mills in Hooghly are closed for the past four months and the workers are not bothered as they have found alternative jobs locally,” said an industry source. ;)

Though jute mills are considered the highest daily wage payers in the textile sector, they are increasingly finding it difficult to employ a new person or retain an old hand. A newcomer gets a daily wage of Rs 227, while an experienced worker earns Rs 404. :woot::woot:

NREGA fuels labour shortage in Punjab

Farmers are in a fix over the massive labour shortage ahead of the paddy sowing and transplantation season. They are finding it difficult to find labourers not only to work in their fields, but also as domestic help.

But this has proved to be a boon for migrant labourers, as the farmers are trying their level best to guard their workforce that mainly come from UP and Bihar. Besides offering more money, they are ready to cater to all their basic needs, including rooms to stay. Farmers feel that the main reason behind such paucity is the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) that has helped many labourers find work closer to their villages.

This is the scene when we have just started our journey as we hit 9% growth from this year and will touch 10% from next year. With in 10 years we will pull almost every Indian out of poverty.

@topic.. Any shortages are in places where is less poverty..

I need to hear similar news from states like Bihar, Jharkhand , UP and all where poverty is prevalent to get convinced.

For example.. in my state which was used to be famous for rice cultivation has no takers... the reasons being labour shortages and high wages which makes the cultivation a loss for the farmer.. so we have to depend on tamilnadu and andra for commodities.

There, the shortage is not on scale of here and the wages are low and poverty is prevalent, but not on the scale of what our adversaries think

In India strangely a person living on daily wages, got a TV in home ( lot of them live in a big family ) and owns a small 2 wheeler comes under poverty belt and benefits from the BPL (below poverty line) benefits of the government like ration ( rice, sugar, kerosene) subsidies..

Its not that the people in 40% of the poverty rate are dying hunger or anything..

The servant who comes for cleaning in my house is under BPL line, but hey she has a mobile and sends her son to school. (My state has 95+% literacy rate)

Really there is a problem of labour in my state.

Last time, when one of my friend wanted one labour in his land for a day, he called up one guy (remember in that guy's mobile)in front of me. He told that he will only come after two weeks for a day. Else all days are full.

Yes, God's Own Country man..,

And you know the guy who came for work carry latest N series Nokia phone and was asking about whats special about the new one Blackberry.
I ran away, didn't show my old Nokia mobile..

Shortage of skilled labours because unfortunately a large swathe of indians are uneducated. Secondly it has to do with the caste mentality of hiring. Many indians are reculant to hire anyone outside their community / social status.

Caste hasn't got anything with labour shortages ... not anymore..

There are no high caste labourer or low caste laborers.. its just labourers..

Shortage means people are involved in better jobs which earns them more money not due to uneducated factor as education is not a must for a farm labourer.

Another Indian (divya) said that anyone who lives on less than 15 rupees is considered to be in poverty.

Here's an interesting statistic.

Nearly 80 pct of India lives on half dollar a day | Reuters

80% of Indians live on less than 50 cent a day.

So true... last time when i need to pluck coconuts from house compound , i had to take leave from office, according to that guy's time ( that bloody guy was drunk too, which is normal for people of our state).

Yes ofcourse he earns around 500+ rupees daily and i am sure 300+ goes to liquor alone and he owns a mobile and is under poverty line.

thanks for telling us how we behave in INDIA.
anyway do you have slight knowledge about xaste system in INDIA ?
caste system was created so that ppl from low caste would be always available for doing small labour works. they all used to do labour work.
jamindars dont hire jamindar for labour work they hire low caste ppl.

actual reason for non availability is reduction is caste discrimination.
even low caste ppl are getting education and doing many other things so there is shortage of labours in some parts of INDIA . its true that caste system is not totally eradicated from INDIA but its definately on a decline.:coffee:

bozo.. u don't need to be highly skilled labour or need a bacholor's degree to plough the field, to harvest, climb a coconut tree, or to be some one's house maid.
guess what? we do have problem in finding the labours to do above jobs round my neck of the woods..

:eek:what?? do you even know what you are talking about?
