What's new

Shooting reported at Oregon college campus - 15 dead

They would say students should be allowed to carry firearms also their should be armed guards and by the way it seem shooter was Atheist because he asked for Christian students and killed them

If he was an atheist, he'd had been discriminated. I don't know the authenticity of what you're saying, but if it happened as you said, then he was anti christian.

It might be a good idea to do an in-depth sociological and psychological study of the populations of the USA and Pakistan, both large very gun dense communities, and see why only one of them has these type of shootings. I would have said countries like Canada and Sweden too, but in terms of population, they are nowhere as close.

What the sick mentality America is suffering

And India suffering sick rapist mentality...

see what I did there...........

The one with the shootings is Pakistan right ?

No, the USA.

Pakistan has shootings of its own, but I have never heard of this type of shooting (school, campus).

Have you?

It would be educative to try and figure out why. Because surely it cannot be linked to access to guns, because in Pakistan the access would probably be as easy as it is in the USA.

And across age groups (on evidence of some of the photos I have seen here and elsewhere).

Plus Pakistan has a thriving gun making industry (Darra Adam Khel), where the replicas are pretty good and hi tech and pretty potent as well.

Actually, the areas where it's easy to get weapons are sparsely populated rural areas in balochistan, kpk and sindh. By law it is very difficult to acquire weapons legally. All the higher calibers are prohibited (they require special licenses only politically very well connected people can get those). The low pistol etc calibers are available to public but not as simple as just going to a gun shop and buying.

Darra Adam Khel if I'm not wrong was shut down after taliban (TTP) took over that area. I've heard it's recovered since then (army clear up).

So in short, populated places where there are schools, people don't have easy access to weapons and schools always have armed security. And in places where weapons are easy to get, there are no schools, so.....

So the solution for USA is to put armed security in schools. But that costs lots of money in USA (min. wages too high etc). So the only reasonable thing to do is to let the good guys carry more guns. Then such incidents will get less common, because possible perpetrator will think twice before attacking already well armed citizens.

Alternatively, metal detectors in schools, that would also work.

I know of at least a few Pakistani members here (seniors) who have a variety of very fancy guns.

Most of them are city dwellers. Major cities, big cities.

Its ridiculously easy in Pakistan to get an automatic weapon, like an AK. In India by comparison, even a revolver involves jumping through umpteen hoops.

Your weapons cottage industry makes fantastic looking replicas. You should see what our cottage industry in UP makes ....

You cannot prevent this sort of shooting by security guards or by teachers carrying guns and trained to use them (as suggested in the US in some quarters).

Short of really high boundary walls (razor wire on top), with security detectors for ingress, you cannot stop this. But that's also going to mean school becomes like a prison.

Its not an easy situation.

These senior members here are in the minority....They are very well connected. Prohibited bore licenses are next to impossible to get for the ordinary guy. Weapon prices are ~300% that in USA.

It is NOT easy to get weapons in Pakistan outside of rural areas LEGALLY.

What is your proposed hypothesis that would explain the difference?

Social support and the institution of the family. That is strong.

An illegal firearm kills just as dead as a legal one.

Could be a contributing factor, but USA has always strive for an open and individualistic society by design.
