. . . . .
"China announced Tuesday that it has successfully conducted the world's first two-way high-speed laser communication test, using a laser communication terminal installed on high-throughput satellite Shijian-13 orbiting 40,000 kilometers above Earth, marking the satellite's official use."

key point:
1. two-way high-speed laser communication
2. high orbit, or long distance, 40,000 kilometers above Earth
3. operational? marking the satellite's official use.

.
It says first for China...not world.

SILEX (Semiconductor-laser Intersatellite Link Experiment) is a laser link, which has been used both to communicate with the SPOT-4 remote-sensing satellite and with a plane in flight
Ever wondered why no space to ground communications? Because they don't have the technology. China is the leader in laser research, understand?
