They'd have to move away from their god-like admiration for that damn family and actually formulate an identity based on POLITICS and not a family name. But of course they could "cope" without them- it's not as though the Gandhi name brings in a whole lot of votes anymore and the draw this name has must be decreasing day by day. As some members have said, the rate of urbanisation and increase in literacy rates will see politics based on policies and not individuals and vote-banks , soon in India.

Congress is nothing without the Gandhis. Uneducated rural people vote on the name of Gandhi n not the Congress party. If gandhis gone, Congress gone! Modi knows this very well and that's why he constantly attack Gandhi family instead of other congressi leaders.

Problem is the uneducated still hold high the 'Gandhi' name and if you notice every election time they fund big subsidies for the masses and claim they are a voice for the poor but that is just a tool they use to gather mass support among the poor and uneducated.
