ISLAMABAD: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has submitted a petition against the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus project in the Supreme Court on Saturday, Express News reported.

The application to the court stated that the project is largely driven by corruption and asked that the Supreme Court to order an investigation into the matter. The Punjab government is named as a respondent in the application.

Further, the petition stated that Murree Road – which runs from Islamabad to Rawalpindi – was dug up, causing a lot of problems for traders who use that route to transport goods. The fundamental rights of people are being violated by the project, it stated further.

The request was filed under Article 184 (3) of the constitution which states: “Without prejudice to the provisions of Article 199, the Supreme Court shall, if it considers that a question of public importance with reference to the enforcement of any of the fundamental rights conferred by Chapter I of Part II is involved have the power to make an order of the nature mentioned in the said Article.”

I do hope Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad has not submitted grounds related to stay of the project.
In my opinion, when project is running SC must be stopped from ordering any issue realted to the stay of project. Yes, if there are cases/evidence of kick-backs or corruption then SC must only issue order against the particular agency/contractor/company/constructor etc.

I believe their are so many other good things which can be done with this money in Rawalpindi. These are just costly political stunts by Punjab government . Why can't they make express way, they may name it as Shahbaz, Nawaz or Muhammad Sharif express way. Why can't they complete holy family hospital. Why can't they improve RGH now BB Hospital, I wish they could understand that God forbid they may be brought to this hospital as BB was brought and they may not be able to find hospital of their choice in UK. People need piece of bread and giving them piece cake is nothing but waste of resources.

Such infrastructure projects are for a long time in future. But CM Shehbaz wants to make a quick buck through these construction projects. He has business stake in a Turkish company doing these Metro Bus projects. He gets a big cut which will definitely get deposited in his overseas accounts.

May we ask Punjab government and nooni-toons on this forum? Was there a feasibility study for this Pindi project? Who designed it? Who commissioned it? The source of funds? How did the govt come to the conclusion that Metro Bus is the best way to approach transport needs of the city?

if u have proof of corruption then go to Supreme court with that not just talk here and talking about light rail well let me tell you that sir when Lahore Metro was under construction all people against that used to say such thing but the reality is light train is not that cheap as of Metro bus... Orange line metro cost 1.6 Billion Dollar convert that into rupee you will have you answer

KCR already has it's rail structure, running trains on it will not be a very costly issues as compared metro busses and trains. They are spending more than one and half billion US dollars on metro train in Lahore, that too getting loans. People need bread to remain alive not metros, under passes and flyovers. We need more investment in human resource, education, health, education and power. Sharif's need to learn that they can win people's hearts by creating small little facilities which benefit more number of people instead of mega projects like metros. Supporting every act of party or leader whom we voted for is not at all wise.

1-Never knew that a rotting railtrack can be used straight away for train operations....amazing....
2-KCR is also being funded by JICA....
3-With growing economic activity people get better opportunities to earn their bread and butter....
4-Okey you can create 170 Million graduates by spending on education but unless there is no growing industry who would absorb these people? Why unemployment rate is high in Pakistan? where industry is failing to absorb even the current breed let alone absorbing the future one?

1) Metro runs on separate road
2) As you said, Murree Road is fully congested, then why should he starts from other road? Murree road is perfect candidate for this project.
3) Third no it's not, but problem with SR is, he done s*t for rwp and he is sensing major defeat if these types of projects continue to happen. It's call politics.

People don't care about whether something good coming out of the project, they care about themselves only. Kalabagh was stopped now cost will be very high if they go for this project. Motorway was stopped in 1992, cost got increased dramatically. Nadipur Project was stoped cost increase. When ever some development project stops, it directly effects the pockets of the tax payers. Simple & Straight fact
