Construction work of the long-awaited Shahjalal Fertiliser Factory in Fenchuganj, Sylhet is progressing fast.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the work under a project involving Tk 5,409 crore on March 24 this year.
Project director Kamruzzaman said they had fixed the target of completing 9 per cent work of the project in seven months till October.
Despite inclement weather, it was possible to complete eight per cent work during the time.
He hoped that the work of the project would be completed before the stipulated time.
The government has taken the project with financial support of China amid growing demand for the important agri-input.
Once established, the factory will produce 1,760 tonnes of urea a day against 5,80,800
tonnes a year, the officials said.
Apart from producing urea, the factory will produce 3,30,000 tonnes of ammonia annually.
The factory will generate 27 megawatt electricity from its own power station and 10 megawatt power from Power Development Board (PDB) will be kept reserved for emergency.
